Split ring = used for DC motors, slip ring = AC motors. A split ring is, as per the name, in "two halves" so that it helps change the polarity every half turn.

Slip rings usually come in a pair for AC, with one ring attached to one end of the coil; the AC does the polarity changing itself.

If anyone wants to clear up a few more bits that I've missed out, have at it!

Good luck all, lets hope for a nice paper.

Not sure, I realised I haven't covered quarks and leptons yet, so I'm trying to give half my focus to that, and half to the pre-release. I might just go through the answers to those pre-release questions, and see what formulas and methods could come up, rather than working my way through it.

It's okay... I've completely missed out binding energy...

Ahhh! The day of judgement is upon us... Good luck to everyone, lets hope it goes well.

Good luck people.

1st question !!
for the two capacitors , what was the voltage across the 1.5 microfarad capacitor ? was it 1.5 volts or 4.5 volts?

That paper was an absolute joke. Can you believe they made a mistake in the paper? Again, after D1?

Edit: Sorry, wrong paper. I did A...

I got 4.5 volts cos charge has to be the same (I think...)
It was a rather nice paper, hope everyone would agree...

You're in the wrong thread, dude.

It was actually! A few slightly "eh" moments like the 4-marker with the beta source and the plates (because I'm not that brill with that bit ), but you gotta admit, that wasn't a ruthless paper at all. ^^

Touch wood for good grades? ^^

What's the right thread?
T'was alright. Though, for some of the questions in Section C, I just didn't have a clue what they wanted me to write.
the section a and b are easy..except for the last question on section b..didnt know how to do that.. section c was hard in some 2 mark questions

One of the first questions confused me a little
first it asked why the particles path is curved in the magnetic field, then another question asking why it was a spiral...
Aren't they basically the same question?
I just said the force is perpendicular to velocity (etc) for both xD
