PGDE Primary - Scottish Applicants

Hi there,

There do not seem to be that many Scottish applicants floating about in the PGCE thread so I thought I would start one myself...

Just wanted to see whether anyone had heard anything back from any of the courses for Primary?

I've applied to Strathclyde and Glasgow Uni for the PGDE in Primary teaching - sent application on 3rd Nov and got an email from Strathclyde saying they had received it on the 11th. Heard nothing since...

Thought it might be useful to start a thread so we can keep in touch and find out when other applicants hear anything. Though apparently this might not be until Jan!

Hey Nat,

Good idea starting a new thred.
I've also applied to Glasgow and Strathclyde.
Haven't heard anything back yet - fingers crossed though!
I was told by friends (who applied last year) that it will be Dec/Jan before we hear about interviews. Such a long wait!

Good Luck!

Hey

I've applied for Primary Education at Edinburgh and Glasgow. Sent my application on the 8th and received an email from Edinburgh Uni asking to send photocopies of my SQA/degree results shortly after, but that's all I've heard so far.

When I was getting ready to apply I emailed the secretary at Edinburgh Uni and she said that last year they didn't look at the applications until after the deadline - maybe it's the same this year and for Scottish universities in general?

Fingers crossed we hear soon! Good luck!

The wait is slowly driving me mad! I'm checking track about 4 times a day although I am sure we won't hear anything until December!!

Do you guys have a lot of experience? I am working full time at the moment so have got my 2 weeks worth but am finding it hard to fit anything else in (I have to take it as holidays so am limited in how much I can take off work!)

I'm the same! I reckon I'll want to check track twice as much when December starts if I haven't heard anything by then

I volunteer at a local Primary School one day a week, which is easy enough for my cause I only work part time so imagine that it must be difficult if you're full time :s-smilie: It sounds like you've managed to get a good amount of work experience done though so as long as you can talk about how it was relevant then you should be fine!

If you really want extra experience with children then maybe you could do something in the evening? I help out at a Brownie's group as well which doesn't start till half 6. They were really happy to have my help when I said I was planning on going into teaching so might be worth phoning around local community centres and places like that? Just an idea

I'm so glad we have a page for Scottish applications... it's a little worrying looking at the other one and seeing all the offers.
I applied to Edinburgh and Glasgow in early October and still no word. I phone Edinburgh (got a little impatient) and they said they wont even start looking till after December 1st.
Think there could be a wait ahead! :frown:

I was going to get in touch with Edinburgh about that this week so thanks for letting me know. Let's hope we hear from all the universities sometime in December then, otherwise I might start to panic!

Thanks for the suggestion - I forgot to mention I work with a Brownie pack too!
I just feel like I only have the minimum classroom experience, but am hoping to go back into school for an afternoon a week if I can arrange something with my boss.
It's so scary that it is so competitive!

Its reassuring that we won't hear anything until December, won't stop me checking 15 times a day just in case, I swear I get over excited every time I see an new email!!

I got an email from Edinburgh Uni this morning (emailed them last night with a copy of a certificate I couldn't send after I applied) and they said that they hope to inform candidates before the University closes for Christmas, with the interview being January 27th.

I reckon other Scottish universities will be the same (but you guys could check if you want) so it gives us about a 3 week period to check track every hour or so lol

Brilliant - thanks for letting us know!

I'm coming up to 28 days since I sent off my application so was going to check with them then, I imagine they will have a similar system.

Its horrible checking the other "I'm applying..." forum as they all seem to be getting interviews and offers everyday!!

Has the university been in touch with you at all, even to confirm they received your application? Either way I'd get in touch with them anyway to find out what's happening.

I'm trying not to look at that thread too much just now, otherwise it makes me feel worried lol. We should post here when we hear from the different universities, and anyone else who has applied to a Scottish course as well

Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't replied, I thought I would get an email when someone wrote back!

Sophia_J have you received the email confirming that they got your application? I'm assuming you applied Glasgow1st and Strathclyde 2nd from your first post?

I had an email just letting me know they had my application. Let us know how you get on if you contact them.

I know what you mean about checking track. Its driving me (and my flatmates having to listen to me do it!) mad!

I applied to Strathclyde first and Glasgow second, so had an email saying they had received my application on the 9th November like you did NittyNat.

I emailed them yesterday just to check whether it was 28 days from the 1st Dec as iLanny said it was for Edinburgh and they have just replied saying:

"It would normally be 28 days from the acknowledgment e-mail, we would advise you to check track and your e-mails regularly for any updates. A decision may also take longer due to the Christmas and New Year holidays."

So it might be next week - slight freak out!! OR it might be later.... not a huge amount of help but thought I would let you all know!
Hi Folks

Although GTTR give the standard 28 day policy as guidance, institutions often wait until after at least the 8th Dec, and can take as long as is necessary to assess applicants since they need to arrange interview dates including staffing which will begin January here in Glasgow. If applicants are selected for Interview they should receive an email mid-end December at the earliest.

Hope this helps
Best wishes
Paul

I swear the wait is getting worse! I keep having dreams about being rejected on GTTR!!!

I have another week of work experience lined up for next week, so excited to see all the kids getting ready for Christmas! (and it will be nice to have a week off work!) I think I will be helping out with their Christmas show quite a bit - though I am not sure how good my memory is for Christmas carols...I suppose I can hum along!!

I know how you feel! Though it's kinda of promising that no one else has heard from any of the Scottish universities yet. It is getting closer to Christmas so let's hope we hear from them in the next week or 2.

The extra work experience sounds like fun  Plus it'll give you something additional and recent to talk about in the interview, which must be a good thing!

I went on GTTR today to see if some of the other courses are filling up already and it came up as univeristy of Glasgow "no vacancies" really hoping that is a computer error.
I really just want to know now... this is getting unbearable!!

I'm not sure what the "no vacancies" thing could mean. A couple of the other Scottish universities say that same, so maybe it's because they don't want any more people to apply?

The deadline wasn't really that long ago and I'm getting anxious already. I dread to think how I'm going to cope with the wait between the interview and the offer (if I get invited for interview, of course)!

Hi All

The specialists will hopefully be looking over applications next week and decisions - if successful- should be emailed either at xmas or after the break. We have experienced issues with mycampus and have been forced this week to go back to paper based applications therefore all decisions may be delayed.

The No Vacancies means the course is now closed.

Hope this helps.
