Polysyllabic Words

What exactly are the effects of these words? Quite confused

BUMP
They enable us to communicate beyond simple grunts
It depends on the context they are used, or if it is a poem, novel, etc.

What poem? :h:

I bet all my chips on Robert Frost.

All that polysyllabic just means more than one syllable. What you're asking can't be answered without context, it would be like asking what the effect of using the letter A in a word in a chapter in a book in an anthology is, any answers we give won't help

Poly means many, monosyllabic (mono meaning one) would be one syllable.

The use of polysyllabic words in a poem could be used to slow the the rhythm of the poem, maybe to draw attention to a particular word/sentence, to emphasise a link to the conceit or theme; or to help create tension, or for the purposes of mood.

I hope this helps.
