Jimmy Connors contribution to tennis was unbelievable 1 thousand plus match wins, Borg with 11 slams age 25/6, Mac and lendl were great. Murray is the huge let down to the big four i mean 1 slam and and 9 Masters.Am going to combine match wins, slams and titles of the current 4 with 4 of the 70s and 80s.

Although if we give Murray a chance, hopefully he can pick up some more slams and/or Masters titles. He needs to accomplish something special that separates him from every other member of the Top 4.
See what the other 3 have:

Federer - 17GS, with 5 straight Wimbledons, US Opens & most weeks at No. 1 (consecutive and overall) and countless other records. Longest match winning-streaks on grass and hard courts. Had the 2nd best season of all time (2006). Olympic singles silver, doubles gold.

Nadal - King of Clay. Highest win-streak on clay (81) - eventually snapped by Roger. Has best record ever at RG so far (52-1)* & has positive H2H over the other members of the Top 4. Has Olympic singles Gold. Record for most no. of masters series titles + other records

Djokovic - Had a superb 43-match win streak in 2011 - eventually snapped by Federer. 3rd best season of all time (2011). Only person other than Emerson to have won 3 straight AO titles. Won 5 Masters titles in a year (unmatched)

Murray - Olympics singles gold, doubles silver. first Brit to win Slam in 76 yrs.

Something special is needed, or say another 4 Slams or so, but he definitely deserves to be in the group more so than any other active player.

I've just checked:

The Bord/Connors/Lendl/McEnroe Quartet won 118 titles in total (34GS, 73 masters, 11 WTFs).
Our current Big Four have won 111 titles (35GS, 68 masters, 8 WTFs) - so we only really need them to win 8 more such titles to pass the '80s guys as the most dominant Big 4 of all time, which should easily happen this year
I adore Connors. I love watching some of his matches on YouTube. I wish I was around when he was playing because I'd love to have witnessed moments like this live:

Comparing the stats of the big guys from different eras is great but there are some things you can't quantify. Connors, McEnroe and Lendl probably did more for the game because of the personalities than anything else.

If it were a choice between who I'd like to watch then I'd choose the old guys over the new ones. The current players play great tennis but they rarely draw you into the theatre of it all. With Connors, McEnroe and Lendl came a rebellious streak that draws you in in a way that I'm not drawn in by the current top players. They're all too nice, damn it!

That's some fine work you've done there. Don't know what to make of the numbers. Essentially it's really close on the two things that matter most; slams and Masters titles.

The current guys will no doubt end up way ahead on the slam count.

But Federer has 21, Nadal has 24, Djokovic has 14 and Murray has 9 so surely that equals 68?

Seems a ridiculous call to me that calling 'no' means you lose it. But yeah, go inverdale!
Nadal out on court now. His first Best of 5 match since June 2012 - let's see how he goes...
I love the serve-and-volley play break point down by Brands. Good play on the second break point as well.
Wow! The pressure gets the great man. What odds he breaks back to love now
2 double faults in that game.
