Pope Francis declares evolution and Big Bang theory are right and God isn't 'a magici

I stole the title LOL :P

The theories of evolution and the Big Bang are real and God is not “a magician with a magic wand”, Pope Francis has declared.
Speaking at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Pope made comments which experts said put an end to the “pseudo theories” of creationism and intelligent design that some argue were encouraged by his predecessor, Benedict XVI.
Francis explained that both scientific theories were not incompatible with the existence of a creator arguing instead that they “require it”.

It was always an elaborate lie. The trick is not to make any absolutely bold claims.
I don't know why people are going so crazy over this. The Catholic Church accepted the theory of evolution ages ago. It was never Catholics who had a problem with it.
The guy is obviously being paid by scientisits/government/illuminati/[Enter name of group with hidden agenda here] to spread lies about God.

God doesn't require a magic wand. He is omnipotent.
Given that no reputable scientist could say with 100% certainty that evolution through natural selection and certainly not the Big Bang Theory are real, I find it hard to believe that Pope Benedict would be saying this.
he's a pretty cool guy

Unsurprisingly, though, he still proclaims that evolution and the Big Bang "require" a deity. Nothing could be further from the truth. The whole point of evolution by natural selection is that it is natural - it doesn't require any divine intervention, and functions perfectly on its own. As for the origin of life, just because science hasn't explained it, it doesn't mean God did it - that's a fallacious argument from ignorance from Pope Francis there.

Similarly, with the Big Bang, there's not yet a substantial body of evidence giving credence to any hypothesis as to how the Big Bang occurred, but the notion that the universe exists due to quantum fluctuations - particles popping in and out of existence in as close to 'nothingness' as you can get - occurring 'before' the Big Bang is at least in line with known scientific principles. There could have been an eternal multiverse, or eternal quantum vacuum, in which these fluctuations occurred, but we simply don't know. We could subscribe to an eternal, transcendent God, an eternal multiverse or quantum vacuum, but we should just admit that we don't know, although there are more reasonable hypotheses (quantum fluctuations) and less reasonable hypothesis (supernatural beings).

I suppose it's easy enough to support the theory of evolution but say God caused abiogenesis to start it all off, however surely it conflicts slightly with the description of man being apart from animals and being made in Gods image. If God guided evolution to make us turn out as we are then..it's not really evolution anymore. So you'd have to discount verses suggesting that surely?

:yep: Although it's always welcome to hear that the Vatican embraces aspects of rational scientific analysis and theory, it's basically the fundamentalists/pentecostalists who have the biggest problems with evolution and cosmology and they loath the Catholic Church, so sadly it won't have any influence on them.

Anyone interested in the staggering depths of stupidity, ignorance and deceit to be found in the pentecostal movement can do worse than watch Revelation or God TV channels, they are full of pseudo-scientists spouting the most perfect trash. Sadly, this nonsense is pretty widely believed in the US.
