What do you think is a good salary and why?

I think £1000000 or more is a good salary because it means you are rich and can buy what you want before retiring young.

Oh sorry, i must have misread something. Thought you were looking at London.

For the best choice of unis i think you need A-Levels. Can you still switch, even if it means an extra year at college? Universities don't care if you are 18 or 19 as long as you have the grades.

The UCAS tariff says how many points different courses are worth, and lots of unis set entry requirements in the form of tariff points. Some of the more selective will only consider a-levels though.

Can't! You need grade Bs in alevels.. forget that... how much do u earn?
£24k in Oxford, which is just enough to rent a flat. I'm not a graduate though. Still doing Open University.

Not sure what you mean about needing Bs. You didn't already take any A-Levels, did you? What I suggested is to switch from your BTEC course to some A-Levels.

What course u taking?? And im not doing alevels, you need grade bs at gcse in order to do alevels plus since my course allows me to do a degree in pharmacology, neuroscience, chemistry, biomedical science, biochemistry i dont see a point in doing alevels and retaking 1-3 years..
Fair enough, not knocking what u done. There's no deadline though, just keep that in mind. If (and only if) you need them for what you want, retakes are fine.

I'm taking IT & Computing, which is what I work in. Switched from admin work a few years back.

Cool good for you! what is your career plan, how much would you earn? I want to go into a career i enjoy and earn good !
I need to decide what to specialise in. Now I just do helpdesk work, and my pay is decent for that. I'm learning programming though. It's not as hard as I thought, but I need to be good at it before anyone will pay me!

I don't know what you want to be, but something in medicine right? To be a doctor, I think you will need the A-Levels, and in that case it's worth resitting. There are lots of other good options tho. Pharmacy pays well and is secure I think.

Or think about working in IT support like me! You might have to start in a call centre, which is hard if you get bad shifts or you have to stick to a script and the callers get mad. But get experience and you can move on. Do you like technology?

Actually i can do optometry with my course but would have to go to Kelee uni which is far... :frown: i'm checking out ucas to see if anyone accepts pharmacy with my degree.. cuz i cant do alevel without a B in science

I'm considering going into the healthcare science...

Who your kidding XD Teachers= £21,000
Biomedical scientist= £21,000 / £25,000
Geneticist= £25,000 +
Other than engineering, medicine, optometry, pharmacy and dentistry what science careers are well paid e.g. pharmacologist, audiologist e.t.c.!

Fewer and fewer well paid pharmacology jobs. We take on pharmacology graduates at 18k and they can expect 25 in 4 years if they work V hard. This is in the pharmaceutical industry.

But in the UK. The starting salary is 25.000
Where are you thinking of then? Keele would be pretty cheap to live at. Or would you stay at home and study locally?

There are training schemes that you don't need a degree for, but it says they are being reduced:

Can't believe that. 😯😯😯
Oh, where are you now then? Assumed England but idk :-)

As an English student you get a loan towards living costs, and a grant if your family doesn't earn much, but it would be hard to live on that. Most students have part time jobs as well, and a lot get money from their parents.

You have to pay up front for your accomodation, sometimes before your loan payment comes thru. Usually it's cheaper to have a room in a private house than to live in halls, but wikipedia says most keele students stay in halls thru their entire degree. So maybe not as cheap as I thought. It's in the countryside, so you'd have to get buses from Stoke or Newcastle-under-lyme if you live out.

I think it's normal for first years to live on campus, at any university. You make more friends doing that, and then you know people to live with in the next year.

That's the bottom end of the scale. I work for a cheap skate company who get away with it because of the location. In London it works out at about the London equivalent. So maybe 21-22k.

This is mainly due to supply and demand. Big pharma have closed huge sites in Harlow, Sandwich, Horsham and soon Alderley park. Until recently there have been tonnes of well qualified pharmaceutical scientists looking for jobs meaning companies can offer grads peanuts.

Academia is well paid though. You will need a PhD and be able to move about alot.

Btw, there's no guaranteed salary apart from minimum wage. Not for graduates or anyone else. You only get good pay if you are in demand. With a science or medical degree you should have less trouble getting a job, but with no experience your first salary might be low. Deal with it, get experience, then apply for better jobs.
I would honestly be satisfied with 15k

a month.

Deffo ganna do work experience.. and I'm goin into a science related career
This. The grads I know who did work experience in their degrees had much less trouble getting graduate jobs. One other guy who studied politics still works in a bar, and it's been a few years now.
