Thanks for all the replies, that cleared things up a bit! My teachers don't seem to understand that just an A isn't good enough

Only my Maths tutor knows that I need high A grades and she's amazingly supportive of it
My chemistry tutor doesn't necessarily know that I need high As, but she still gets disappointed when I don't get full marks or close to it, so that's determination from her in itself
I have my written EMPA paper tomorrow. The experiments seem to have gone well, and the grade boundaries are typically low... who knows? I might just do it...

Good luck! We have our EMPA experiments tomorrow (physics)

Best of luck! If you're on AQA I don't think they're too bad :ahee:

Is anyone else's motivation starting to wane? I'm hoping it's because I've done nearly everything and don't have much more to do (always optimistic)!

Thankfully my subjects are science based so it is very easy to ensure I have done enough work as I can just do past papers which are very easy to mark and see whether I've done enough or not

I can only do that for French! Consider yourself lucky (but I don't envy you at all; I hate science).

Hooray another engineer  Any idea of what specialism yet?

Im thinking civil engineering, especially hazard proof structures (like earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes) - I'm doing research on this for my EPQ too

ugh if the AQA EMPAs for physics weren't too bad then I'm screwed. Our physics ISAs were really hard...

Do I have any chance of getting into Cambridge? I got pretty poor GCSE's: An A, 5 B's and 4 C's. However I'm expecting to do pretty well for my AS: 4 A's. I also looked on the website and it said that they don't look for specific GCSE grades and prefer to use post age 16 exam results. I have a lot of work experience under my belt and I volunteer at the local council. I would also work like crazy to achieve the all important A*'s at A2. Is there hope?

Yes there definitely is but you (and everyone else for that matter) will want to try and get as high a ums score as you can. What subject?

It depends on your UMS and contextual data i.e whether the school you went to is a really poor performing school and if there were any extenuating circumstances etc

Which subject are you considering?

My school is pretty awful, putting it nicely. Only 2% of students achieved AAB last year.

Also I'm considering economics, business studies and maths being the subjects I may get A*'s in.

I feel so pessimistic and unhappy and terrible about my upcoming exams, even though I managed AAAAAA in my mocks earlier this year. Anyone else here struggling with these feelings?:frown:

I don't really know much about economics as a course but all I can say is work really hard on your AS Levels, from what I've read, you may have a chance
