If you're talking about anywhere on your computer, alt codes may be worth looking up. (They are called subscripts and superscripts).
On features like Word it is there somewhere on the top bar.
On this forum you use ['latex]a_{subscript} without the ', and you can write anything instead of a and subscript so that it shows up as asubscript. Similarly, ['latex]a^{superscript} without the ' gives asuperscript... though I see an easier method has been suggested
