If they're giving out college places to people who havent made durham their firm, surely some will reject and places will become avaliable, so why is there nothing that can be done? :frown:

Yep that's the thing, I don't want to have to pay for catering when I probably won't get my money's worth out of it :frown:

Let me know how they respond? I'm thinking of contacting them too although it seems like changing college is impossible

Yeah they said nope; can only change due to health problems or disabilities, can't even make it up as they want medical proof. Ah well depending on how the open day is I might end up rejecting durham

Got Butler (first choice) for BA Geog!😀 Anyone else in butler - which applicant days are you going on?!
If anyone has been allocated St. Cuthbert's there is a facebook group chat. If you want to be added just message me
I got Butler  Chuffed with the college allocation, but I'm not sure if I'll be firming Durham yet.

My offer is one grade higher than the 'typical offer' suggested on the website, which puts me off slightly, and my acceptance also depends on what grants I might get. Being a 2 hour train journey from my family/friends scares me to death, and if I can't afford to do that then there's no way I could go to Durham :frown:

hahaha, i hope i get reallocated. I applied to st johns - by accident doing it twice and carrying it over from my oxf application, instead of Castle (ikr) I then refused to look at UCAS for a while after that, and missed the window for amending applications... anyway any econ and politicians out there?

:ciao: (at Castle)

Your university years are transitional, in loosening your family ties, as you find your way in the world. Making new friends is an essential part of university life, and I've often seen First years scurrying off home every weekend in the initial semester, at that critical time when new friendships are forming, in a vicious circle.

Hi, I'm also an English Literature offer holder and have been allocated to Grey College (although it was my preferred choice) I absolutely loved the college and it is beautiful in my opinion. It is fairly modern but the rooms are a great size, the bar is really cute and their college library is a really good size. It's a fairly secluded college and is surrounded by nature, I'm sure you'll love it when you visit it and at the end of the day it is only where you are staying and shouldn't determine how much you enjoy your degree, but I'm sure it won't disappoint you.

Ooo that's so exciting! Are you going to the applicant day, I might see you there! It does look like a great college, I'm pleased with my reallocation. I'm leaning more and more towards Durham over Exeter, the modules look so interesting, I just wish it placed a great emphasis on continual assessment like essays rather than the exam heavy course it appears to have.
Applied to Castle and been allocated there to study psychology! Does anyone know if you can specifically request not to share a room?

I've been offered Josephine Butler for Classics and am gutted really wanted catered and traditional so may turn my offer down. Just devastated.

I got allocated St John's for Physics, and really wanted JB so will turn my offer down if I can't change it which is gutting as its my fave uni :frown: I know they're different courses but is there any way we could try and see about swapping if you're interested in St John's at all?
I got St John's and will be studying Law! Applied to St Mary's but I'm still very happy 😄

I guess I'm just too family-oriented. :s-smilie: Perhaps a university closer to home is better for someone like me.

I'm doing law, and also allocated to St Johns, just deciding between Durham and Bristol now 😩
Current John's first year physics student here - dw guys you'll love it when you get here
Hey guys, got JB as I wanted so I am super happy. One question, does it matter that the college hasn't changer on UCAS? Will that only change once decisions are made?

Yes I am, I just need to book it and see if I can get the days of college. I liked the fact that it has kept the formal traditions of the University but the atmosphere of the college itself is very relaxed. I also applied to Exeter and that course was great, I'm hoping to specialise in Medieval Literature though and so decided to insure York instead of Exeter due to the opportunities York offered. I'm sure the emphasis on Exams will give us a welcome break from Coursework (feel like I've spent my whole life writing coursework). At the end of the day, Durham is a great university to study English Literature at and I'm sure they've devised the best course structure that obviously gives them and their students the best results possible. Hope to see you at Grey in the near future.
I have been allocated to St Johns, but I intend to make Durham my insurance. I know that if you hold Durham as your insurance and end up going there, you may be reallocated a different college. Is this u usual or does it happen a lot? What are the chances that I will be allocated a different college?

I think it depends on how many people pull out because they don't make the offer.

Quite frankly, I think pulling out because you don't like your accommodation is a bit silly.

You misunderstand me. I'm really happy to have been allocated St Johns and I would obviously prefer NOT to be reallocated to a different college, but that doesn't mean I'd refuse to go to University if I did get reallocated. I don't think anything in what I said implied that I would do something so extreme, and yes silly! From what I can tell, I'd have a great time at any of the colleges because they are all lovely and unique. But at the same time, I am curious as to whether there is a high probability of being reallocated. I don't want to risk getting too attached to St Johns now if I will probably end up in a different college!
