what advice would you give to a fresher?

today was my first day at freshers and I feel very overwhelmed by it all! I'm quite introverted so I left the social event after a few hours (most of my flatmates stayed and are going clubbing I think) and now I'm just worried that I've wasted my first night.

So people who've just finished or have in past years done freshers, what advice would you give about settling in and making new friends? All advice is really appreciated
Keep your door open, and step outside of your comfort zone every day.

Don't worry! I'm a fresher too so you're not alone. I'm quite introverted as well so I didn't bother going to any social events. My advice to you would be to just be yourself. You'll surely find people with similar interests. Joining societies is a good way of doing this. Don't feel pressured to go out clubbing every night if you don't want to. It's your life. Do what makes you happy, not what makes other people happy

Btw, I dunno why I'm typing in such small sentences.
1) talk to random people you meet - they're just as scared as you are
2) you can have great nights without going out clubbing. film nights, cooking nights (no student will turn down a meal)
3) it's okay if you don't become best friends with the first people you meet, you'll find others
4) literally no one is paying attention to you to judge you so don't be too scared to try out new things
5) you'll forget so many names
6) freshers flu will hit you hard so have fun while you can

My uni didn't have freshers week so it's not something I experienced.

But I would offer the following advice - if you go out partying, don't take your wallet or a card - just take cash.

Also, keep an extra £20 note in a different pocket for emergencies. No more beer isn't an emergency. Tasty kebab isn't an emergency either. Stranded in a strange town pissed with no idea where you are and need to call a taxi to get home is an emergency.

Freshers Flu smacked me in the face so hardcore. Totally sucks. Didn't know it was even a thing.

If you're going to start banging 2 girls from the same uni, try to make sure they're not from the same halls :mmm:

If you're going to start banging 2 girls from the same halls, try to make sure they're not from the same building :erm:

If you're going to start banging 2 girls from the same building, try to make sure they're not from the same floor:mute:

thanks so much!
Avail yourself of as many opportunities as possible. Meet people you wouldn't normally speak to. Go to the Fresher's Fair and get chatting. Have as much fun as possible, but try to remember that you're also there to study. And, I think, try to have at least some sort of a routine, however boring that sounds - it will stand you in great stead for fitting in both work and socialising successfully.
My advice would be to try to relax and enjoy yourself, chat to new people (you're all in the same boat after all!), and join a few clubs that sound appealing- hope you're having a great time!

Did someone say....... roommates?
Don't feel pressured to go out clubbing every night. If you're tired and need a night in, that's okay. You don't have to surround yourself with people all the time to make friends.
