Sort of—we get these weeks of school-coordinated exams three times this year and once at the end of last year, all covering part of the syllabus for each subject and their average makes up 50% of the final exam mark. Then at the end of the academic year we get the state-coordinated exams, covering the entire syllabus and making up the other 50% (except for Chinese and advanced maths, those only have school exams). So yeah, I'm sitting about 15% of my official exams right now :lol:

That's not too bad then hahaha, I remember being a total mess from this time last year to like a month before my A-level exams. I would have failed so bad if I had to take anything then :lol:

The day IS a rollercoaster and your emotional response is absolutely and completely understandable. Especially if your bf has missed out.

The terms at Cambridge are short and your bf can, of course, visit, and then you have long vacations to enjoy... And I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want you to give up your offer because he missed out.

But your case is rather more special than most: Cambridge, i.e. the specialist "poolside" committee of experienced admissions tutors and directors of studies, think you would make a excellent student at their university and deserving of one of their very limited number of new "Open" places.

There is no need to rush to a decision, let it sink in, revisit Cambridge, see how things develop.

Oh, and nearly everyone goes through phases of feeling their offer was a huge mistake by Cambridge, they don't deserve it, and they will be "found out" when they go up to Cambridge. That's called imposter syndrome. It's a real thing especially, and perhaps ironically, among high achievers. As I said, the experts at Cambridge DO think you are vey much worth it - and they are rarely wrong...

I've just been to the postal sorting office near my house, and I have no letter again today from Robinson! Is the best course of action to call them? I'm hesitant to because I'm sure they're incredibly busy and doing all they can, but I'd love to know about my result either way!

Edit: also you can't really "know", and there are frankly too many very good students to be accommodated at Cambridge. Good students miss out every year...

So, thank you @jneill for digging up. :biggrin:

I totally second what jneill has already told you, so I won't repeat them, but I know a few cases I happened to know personally, you may find it useful in making up your mind.....either way.

To start with, I don't think it's a good idea to put your 'boyfriend/best friend' not joining you at Cambridge into consideration of the decision. Yes, there's a good chance it may change your relationships with them, but that's a life. It can happen anywhere, anytime, anyway.
But if a relationship/s is strong enough/right one for you, it will not be destroyed. I know a few students at Cambridge who were in the same position with their boyfriend/girlfriend who managed to keep their relationship during and beyond their days at Cambridge.
Also, my daughter's best friend also missed her offer st Cambridge but their fates never influenced their friendship and they're still the best friends now, a few years after they both graduated two years ago from their respective unis. In fact, a group of close friends at her old school are still very close and still meet up occasionally. Actually one if them also went to Cambridge but the only time she and my daughter could meet up was when they were back at home for holiday as they were both too busy with their own life during the term times.

Re a difference of courses at other unis:
This was actually gave my daughter agony. She got offer from all unis she applied but she genuinely liked the top three choices equally but for different reasons. In fact she preferred the courses (content/style) at other two unis to cambridge's, but she really liked the idea of being at a collegiate university as she knew very well through the people's around us who were at Cambridge how much benefit it would give her, both socially and academically.
It was such a difficult decision to make because it was just like trying to compare an apple and an orange.

The only advice I could give her then was that there's no guarantee she'd be happy/happier at any of them and probably would never ever truly know whether you made a right decision or not because you ccouldnt be at two unis at the same time and compare the outcome.
But if/when you feel you are not happy at whichever uni you chose to go and wish you had gone to one of other two, the degree of regret you feel would probably be quite different; "Wish I'd chosen Cambridge" vs "Wish I'd chosen (other uni)"

In the end she chose Cambridge mainly because of the collegiate system and she is glad she did.
I think their collegiate system is the jewel in the crown of their undergraduate education and that's something you cannot get from any other unis anywhere. (Except for The Other Place, of course, but theirs is inferior to us, as we all know..... :tongue:

)

It's definitely a natural response and a well recognised issue for many Cambridge offer holders. But you can simply trust that the admissions experts do know what they are doing :smile:

The drop-out rate for Cambridge is *much* lower than the average for UK universities, and the rate of 2:1+ classifications is higher!

You'll be fine. :smile:
