The supranational elements of regionalism are not often liked, as they interfere with the sovereignty of nation states, see the factortame case for an example of how the EU started to overrule the power of our own parliament.

Additionally, the democratic deficit led to a belief that we no longer had control in our country, the EU is controlled by multiple old white men who were not elected (often only in that position after failing to get elected). Furthermore, the European parliament sees dismal turnouts of as low as 13% (and is declining), and it cannot even propose legislation, only vote on what the commission sends, very much like the spartan style of government, but instead of shouting to vote, they do so in a more civilised manner.

This makes people feel (I believe rightfully so) that the EU has 'taken our country' by taking away our sovereignty (regardless of domestic issues) and by doing so without any mandate.

We're not stupid. Most regular joes who use that phrase have no idea what the complex economics is behind the EU and are referring to immigrants

Sorry, I skim read your comment and interpreted it wrongly, forgive me. I do agree that denying racism, was quite the issue especially days after the vote was announced.

I find this one particularly interesting.

Trump does it a lot. His whole "you're fake news" is the same idea as "we are not racist". It's "you are just calling us racist" or "you are saying that about me" because you don't like me.

It's ironic because there was a spark in hate crime after the vote and brexiters were still saying "nope we're not racist or xenophobic at all".

I think there was less racism and more xenophobia.

To be honest I'm a little interested in this discussion. I've a modest idea about the devolution of laws and the judicial systems in the EU, so don't take me for a foolhardy who doesn't understand his place on the issue, but I'm curious as to what others consider about the idea of taking Britain back.

I'll say I'm nonplussed on the issue for the sake of saying it, and I'd like to ask: Could anyone state what they intend to take back, with regard to Britain of course?
