Does anyone know what math skills are required for the AS Biology exam?
Like you need to know how to calculate percentages, but what else?

Go here for my source. 10% of the marks available will be for the assessment of mathematics.
You need to:

1.

Recognise and make use of appropriate units in calculations.

2.

Recognise and use expressions in decimal and standard form.

3.

Use ratios, fractions and percentages.

4.

Estimate results.

5.

Use an appropriate number of significant figures.

6.

Find arithmetic means.

7.

Construct and interpret frequency tables and diagrams, bar charts and histograms.

8.

Understand simple probability.

9.

Understand the principles of sampling as applied to scientific data.

10.

Understand the terms mean, median and mode

11.

Use a scatter diagram to identify a correlation between two variables.

12.

Make order of magnitude calculations.

13.

Select and use a statistical test.

14.

Understand measures of dispersion, including standard deviation and range.

15.

Identify uncertainties in measurements and use simple techniques to determine uncertainty when data are combined.

16.

Understand and use the symbols: =, <, <<, >>, >, a, ~

17.

Change the subject of an equation

18.

Substitute numerical values into algebraic equations using appropriate units for physical quantities.

19.

Solve algebraic equations.

20.

Translate information between graphical, numerical and algebraic forms.

21.

Plot two variables from experimental or other data.

22.

Understand that y=mx+c represents a linear relationship.

23.

Calculate the rate of change from a graph showing a linear relationship.

24.

Draw and use the slope of a tangent to a curve as a measure of rate of change.

25.

Calculate the circumferences, surface areas and volumes of regular shapes.

Ah geez that's a lot thanks! Damn if they ask us to draw a histogram. Nope!
What does << >> a and ~ mean? Sorry I've never been taught this :'D
