It is funny how LSE is mentioned for Economics. If you take Economics out of the equation, UCL beats LSE hands down.
Is a pair of Nike better than a pair of Adidas?
Is it just academic? (Pun intended)

LSE is a specialised uni, while you could fine almost any subject at UCL, so even in general term, it's not apple to apple. In regards to Economics and Political Science, LSE has been renowned as one of the best in the UK, with rigorous research and a bunch of alumni contributing in the public sector. Thus, I would say that LSE is stronger in its specialised field than UCL.
Within UK, employers do not deem one to be better than the other. If there are 2 candidates, one from UCL and one from LSE, the comparison is between the 2 individuals, and the university does not come into the evaluation.

Outside of UK, some employers may be less aware of UCL's elite status.
I completely agree!!
