The Student Room Group

This might be a stupid question but...

... what does a student loan contribute to?
What do you mean? What do people spend it on?
Rent, food, transport, nights out

Thanks.. I didn't know if it was solely for tuition/rent or for other things.
your tuition fee loan would go directly to tuitions, but your maintenance loan can be spent on anything. people would usually spend it on rent, and most of the time it wouldn’t cover the whole rent so people would usually have worked before uni so they have money to spend on food, going out, etc

Your tuition fee loan and maintenance loan are separate. The tuition fee loan is paid direct to the university, the maintenance loan is paid direct to you so you spend it on whatever you want.

Tuition Fee Loan: This goes straight to the university - you never see it

Maintenence Loan: Goes to your nominated bank account on certain dates depending on your university. Can be used for anything from rent, food to skiing holidays (latter is not recommended)

I thought the Chancellor was largely ceremonial and doesn't receive a salary?
