Why do economics grads earn so much

I haven't seen any high paying grad jobs for economics, why do they earn so much after 5 years?
The statistics are skewed by Economics students from LSE/Oxbridge/etc going into IBanking roles and moving into considerably paying positions after a couple years as an analyst. The modal Economics student is likely to have considerably lower income than mean salaries suggest...

But even in people finishing courses at places like york have high salaries

Often you have several hundred candidates for a single post. Majority does something else.
