Which university for Space Engineering MSc?
Hi everyone,
I'm still considering my options for postgraduate study starting September 2019, with goals of landing myself a career in the space industry (e.g. space mission design/engineering). I have a BSc in Physics & Astronomy and am looking to study one of the following master's:
University of Leicester - Space Exploration Systems
University of Surrey - Space Engineering
Cranfield University - Astronautics and Space Engineering
Does anyone have any good knowledge on the pros and cons of each, and the differences in employability. As far as I can tell, they are all quite similar (with Leicester being perhaps the most different and not quite as "engineering-y" and more based around mission planning and integration of different systems, but still has decent prospects as I've found recent graduates to be working for space companies like Thales Aliena Space.
I would appreciate any responses from graduates of any of these courses or anyone with anything helpful to say.

You don't tend to find grads on this site. Check with the unis where their grads end up, about links with the sector and work and research opportunities.

Congrats on your offer from Cranfield University for an MSc. in Astronautics and Space Engineering!, ranking top 7 in Europe. To be given an offer in the first place for an Msc. In Cranfield means you are up to the task! Because if you didn’t meet the criteria, you would have been advised for a pre-master’s programme. This course is suitable for graduates with engineering, physics and mathematics background. The course is made up Taught modules 25%, Group project 30%, Individual research project 45%. The programme teaching team is filled with space engineering specialists with its Directors an industrial advisory panel comprising senior representatives from leading space and associated sectors including Mr Andrew Bradford, Director of Engineering, SST.
For the group and individual projects, you get to partake in some very interesting ground-breaking topics.
In terms of employment, as an international student with a student visa, you are given six months after your masters to apply for jobs. With our well-grounded career-focused programmes and Cranfield career services, you could bag a nice job. Our graduates are regularly recruited by organisations including EADS Astrium, SSTL, Vega, ABSL, Tessella, OHB, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and the European Space Agency including NASA which by the way NASA recruitee was an international student!
I know a few international students including Indians that had jobs as soon as they completed their courses.
