Hi, for maths I would recommend the advanced higher maths website, it has things such as essential skills work sheets which are very good for stating out. Also all the past papers are broken down into different topics. On youtube I would recommend Mr thomas, you might find that your school teaches in a slightly different way, but its always good to check out and you might even find a startegy that you find easier! For maths its mostly about repetition, espcially of past papers, you will find that the same questions come up year by year.

For chemistry, I would again say past papers, this website here https://chemistry-teaching-resources.com/ has past papers all the way back, and you will even see that some have been resued in more recent years (just beware not all questions are part of the new spec). I would also recommened looking up the course specification on the sqa website, as it breaks down exactly what you need to know. Miss adams chemsitry on youtube can also be quite useful.

For English for me my biggest struggle was RUAE, so i would recommened doing past papers, and also learning your structures for each question, on youtube there a re some helpful videos if you arent sure on the structure.

I didnt actually do biology, but i believe the chemsitry structure could also work.

I hope this helped!
And if you need any help throughout the year just post on here and either myself or someone else will for sure try to help u out!

May God is with you, I did maths, physics, bio, chem, pe. All I can say is if you don't study for 2-3 hours every day you won't get anything close to that lol! good luck my brother. Plus, I was in the same boat as you last year, I would not advise taking English or music just take one easy subject cus there will be a lot of competition that means there's a huge chance you won't even get in. All unis recommend you to take all sciences (maths, physics, bio, chem) for medicine. Good luck!

I took very similar subjects and got A's. Basically it is not as scary as it seems just do the class work, make summaries or revision resources so exam time is easier... and above all don't stress out about it at the end of the day your grades are important but mental stability is more important!

I’d agree with the poster above that the key thing in getting all As is hard work and discipline. You should be doing 3 hours of study (homework and revision) on a school night and then 8 hours over the weekend).

During your exam periods this should increase significantly to 4 hours on school nights and 9 hours a day at weekends and holidays.
You need to judge how many hours you need to do to keep on top of any homework (our school gives out very little homework) and also revise as it is different for everyone. Flk10 recommends a little more than I did, the main point is everyone is different. You should be using study methods where you can measure yourself, so you know if you are doing enough or not for you.

Lots of good advice already given, but also make sure you have enough time to socialise, exercise and chill out too, take care of yourself and eat well, drink lots of water and sleep well. These are all important as it is a long year, then S6 too, and you don't want to burn out. Work both smart and hard, but keep it sensible and you will get the grades you deserve.

How many hours of study did you do out of interest?

Hi!
I actually did all these subjects last year for my highers ( except I took human bio instead of general bio ) and got 5 A's. I think for maths, the most useful thing is to do practice questions - either from past papers or textbooks. For English, I recommend going over quotes and making sure your analysis is solid. Nearly all of your marks come from your analysis and evaluation in RUAE, TA and essay. Maybe make some picture association cards? My teacher provided me with those and I found them really useful going through them as fast as I could. Plus, doing timed practices is good but don't overdo them or you'll burn yourself out. I personally did only two or three in my free time. Background research also never hurts. With chemistry and biology, I found making my own notes was really useful, choosing the key information to compile into one source. After that, flashcards, past papers and mind maps were a lifesaver for me.
I'm sorry if that was too much but I have a habit of rambling haha. If you want to ask me any questions, feel free!!

I got 6As at Higher last year (got an A in all my exams, i.e. assessments given by SQA and sat internally, so I wasn't just a beneficiary of the grade inflation) and my recommendation, trite as it may be, is just to do as many practice exam question as you can get your hands on. I personally did, especially for the sciences, each past paper every week or so until I got 100%. My reason for doing so is that in the sciences particularly, the same concepts arise more often than not, and so mastering the way questions are asked and the content of said questions is indubitably beneficial.

For maths, chemistry and bio I would strongly recommend doing every past paper you can get your hands on. It gives you such a good idea of what will come up in an exam (and so many questions are repeated practically word for word every year) and it gives you really good practice at the basic skills/knowledge. Even better if you do the past papers under timed conditions that way you can see if you need to work on getting quicker.
