Hi all, I'm just about to go into yr 2 sociology at Warwick, and can honestly say that it's great, although it does depend on who is your tutor.
As for social research methods, you're in for a treat! taught by a great guy who is ready to chat at anytime, and answers emails almost before you've refreshed your inbox, as for books, Venketesh is a good read, (even if it's not studied next year) and the Bryman book is invaluable. I'd also recommend getting a dictionary of sociology, can't be used as a reference, but great for a short recap of concepts and figures of note. Don't worry about joining without prior study, I went in 11 years after finishing school and found it ok!
Some advice...... Make friends with your seminar group, talk to everyone (especially tutors), don't avoid your round at the bar, DO THE READINGS EVERY WEEK, take notes and ask around if you need any help!
