I really want to go to the march about university cuts in London on thursday. I don't think my parents will be happy about me missing a day of sixth form, but am I legally allowed to not go for 1 day because I am past school leaving age?

The school can't stop you as you're legally allowed to not be there. Just phone up and say you're ill.

They can throw you out as you're a voluntary student, however it's unlikely that they'll throw you out for being off one day. Just say you're sick.

Yes, you are allowed and, as said above, use illness if you're worried.
