It's a major final. Play the big guns, rest them against Orient and play them again against Barca. We were too overconfident against Orient and didn't convert possession into chances, this is why we drew. At the Emirates, Orient don't have the quality to rough us up, and cannot play every man behind the ball like Ipswich tried to since the circumstances are different. At home our second string should be good enough to beat Orient at home.

It's a final, play the ****ing first team. Against Orient, play a slightly weaker side, but keep the key players to get like 3-0 up and then take them off.

Hmm.. key words being "attempt" for Bramble and "make" for Wilshere? And also, Bramble's passes were probably short and to his partnering centre back, whereas Wilshere tends to make a range of passes in tight midfield areas.

Not a fan of those passing stats. Didn't Denilson have the best passing statistics (completion rate) for a stage last season? It doesn't mean much at all. The number of passes Wilshere made tells you nothing about his overall influence on the game, which was huge yesterday. He was everywhere.

I think Denilson made the most passes for us last season, with the highest accuracy. Some **** like that. I can't remember if it finished like that, but it definitely was at somepoint :yep:

That article is ridiculous and seems biased. Arsenal fans don't have a problem with teams defending and putting pressure, loads of teams do this against us. It's when it becomes cynical fouling and just kicking players that there's a problem. We can deal with it now though, we haven't really been bullied out of any games this season and in fact if Stoke actually went for it yesterday they could easily have got a draw.

It's the normal idiotic sports journalism which is rife in English media.

Teams are more than welcome to be defensive to the point of boredom, I just pity their fans. They're also welcome to hoof it up in the air. But when they have a player who's broken 3 players legs in 5 years, there's no stance to defend him on.

Only in England are players like that defended.

The article makes a fair point but it is inherently one-sided. We may boo when Delap does a long throw but at the Britannia when one of our players goes down after a tackle they usually get booed as well if there's any suspicion of diving. I think fans always do stupid things in the heat of a match, including booing refs when you don't usually have the right position in the crowd to judge a decision anyway, but we all shout anyway because we want to get behind our team. It's simply very easy for (usually tabloid) journalists to give us stick for things like this, whilst defending lower table teams with 95% English players, there's no objectivity. And tbh any objective observer would give Arsenal fans some license to be angry after what happened to Ramsey.

After reading some of the comments to the article, do any of you actually have a problem with this sentence?

For what it's worth Arsenal fans here seem to have become a lot less critical of other styles of play, towards the end of last season it seemed you thought you deserved the league just because you passed the ball about, that teams who didn't try and play like you weren't worthy of the PL, that playing for a draw and "anti-football" was always wrong, but that attitude seems to have pretty much gone (along with Rob, not exactly a coincidence :colonhash:

). The main gripe is now with bad challenges (imo you go a bit ott but it's probably understandable given recent history) which that article seems to have missed.

Defensive teams isn't the issue, it's the sheer recklessness of how Stoke et al play.
