Anybody from India/Pakistan applying for PGCE Primary

Volunteer Note: Since this thread is very old, if you want to ask a new question you're best creating your own discussion thread here.

Hi,

I am graduated from India and want to apply for pgce 2012-2013. Got my qualification equivalency from NARIC and it is equivalent to UK graduate degree but they dont provide any information regarding different subjects.

I phoned to local ITT provider but they said they cant help.

Can anybody here let me know how can I sort out GCSE Maths, English and Science issue?

I was a Science student and have a degree in Applied Biology.

Hi,
I am from Bangalore and am starting Secondary Biology PGCE this September. Indian Degree is considered equivalent to the British Degree. However, you need to send your GCSE equivalent report card to the Uni when you apply. The Uni’s usually consider Maths and Science grades as equivalent but not English. You may have to take IELTS. If you need more info please feel free to contact me.

Just wondering, did you go back and forth from Indian to the UK for all the interviews and tests at the uni your going to study at? I'm asking because I will probably be abroad when I apply and am wondering how grueling travelling for interviews, tests, and getting experience in British schools will be.

I just travelled once coz I got into my first choice, the University of Nottingham. Since, I had the existing VISA I went again in June to complete my Pre-PGCE Placement in a Primary school.
Thanks so much for your response

Pre-primary placement in a primary school, I thought you were doing a Biology PGCE?
Congrats on getting into your first choice!

Just out of interest, can you say that you will complete experience after you get into your uni? I was under the impression that you had to have experience before applying?

I reckon you got me wrong. I have been teaching International GCSE and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for the last 7 years, in India. This helped me in getting into the course. However, you need to have some experience in schools before the interview. Once you get unconditional offer you have to do a Pre-Placement in a primary school and complete some tasks in the school to submit a report to the University.
Okay that totally makes sense, yep I got you wrong :colondollar:
Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Best of luck with it all

Hello I am Anupama and I am from India. I did my degree in CBZ and I did my masters in industrial fisheries. I finished 8years back, but when I came here just because lack of information I did not go for teaching and worked in beauty. But now I want to go for teaching and wants to do PGCE course in Biology. Can you please tell me guide me some questions. Do u think to do biology pgce you need to have full knowledge on biology when you do course or can I develope gradually. Because even though I know subject but I left it for too long that is why I am worried to do course. I did look for subject enhancement courses for biology but there is nothing for biology. Do they ask any questions regarding your subject in pgce interview? Do u think will it be difficult for me now to go for teaching. Is there any ways just to refresh my knowledge? Can you please tell me is it difficult to be a biology teacher? Also if I go like a biology teacher do I need to teach chemistry and physics as well or can I specialise in only biology? Sorry for so many questions. I am very interested in teaching but because of so many doubts in my mind I am not able to progress.. Any information would be really helpfully.please help me with these questions. Thank you very much.

Hi Amoghars,

I guess you have completed your PGCE. I was wondering how you found the experience. I too have taught IB (specifically Diploma level) for 5 years in India and want to apply for the PGCE.

Any advice?
