I would have thought there was already a thread for this, but it seems there isn't...
Wondering what clapping games/songs other people played with their friends at primary school. Specifically wondering how much variation there is in different regions; a lot I thought that our school had made up seemed to be common knowledge for some of my friends from different schools, as well.
Also, a lot of these rhymes were very sexual/violent- something I didn't really notice as a kid, but is a little shocking looking back.
This one was common in my year:
I went to the Chinese chip shop,
To buy a loaf of bread (bread, bread)
She wrapped it up in a five pound note,
And this is what she said (said, said):
Boys got the muscles,
Teacher can't count,
Girls got the sexy legs,
You better watch out,
I'm gonna hypnotise ya,
Gonna paralyse ya,
Gonna turn around and faint.
One that I proudly recited to my mother with no idea about the sexual innuendo:
We are the [my home town] girls,
We wear our hair in curls,
We wear dungarees,
To show our sexy knees,
You know the boy next door,
He got me on the floor,
We did it once,
We did it twice,
He gave me a fifty p,
To go behind the tree,
You know behind the tree,
He stuck it into me,
My mum was so surprised,
To see my belly rise,
My dad he jumped for joy,
It was a baby boy.
And another (with disturbing undertones of domestic violence):
My boyfriend gave me an apple,
My boyfriend gave me a pear,
My boyfriend gave me a smack in the mouth,
And threw me down the stairs.
I gave him back his apple,
I gave him back his pear,
I gave him back his smack in the mouth,
And threw him down the stairs.
I threw him over London,
I threw him over France,
I threw him over the USA,
Where he lost his underpants.
My sister went to London,
My sister went to France,
My sister went to the USA,
and found his underpants.
Anybody recognise these? Which were the ones in your school?
