Need information about the stroop effect

I'm currently doing a dissertation on the stroop effect and whether there is a difference between male and female.

However, I am trying to gather as much information as possible from various different sources, so if someone could help that would be great!

I just need some general information about the stroop effect and its background, how it works etc.

Additionally, any information about previous research into gender differences that you know of and your opinion on it would be helpful too.
