University Accomodation

Hey Guys! I've firmed Newcastle as my first choice for English literature, is anyone else applying for the same course? I'm not to sure which accommodation to apply for yet but thought it would be cool to have this thread to find people who are going to apply for the same place and stuff! Also any tips on accommodation from current students would be good! ahhh so excited:smile:

Hey I've also firmed for media communication and cultural studies, not a clue about accommodation though haha!

Ricky Road sounds top for the parties and the social life but looks like a prison on the virtual tours it also doesn't have any tv's, pool tables on site bar etc.

Castle Leazes sounds good but is it same gender? As that puts me off I would like to live with a mix of guys and girls, also I've heard people say it's snobby and stuff...

St Mary's looks really nice also but I don't think I can be bothered with constantly getting the bus

If you're like me and want to be somewhere where there's constantly something happening, parties etc. then Ricky Road is what you want...it is basic though. I'm leaning towards Marris House though which is still Ricky Road, just more modern, bigger and isn't much more a week. Castle Leazes is huge as well and is meant to be quite decent and central.

Personally, I wouldn't go for the likes of St Marys or Henderson (way off campus) or Central Link (nice, modern but really expensive and quiet apparently). I'd rather save £40-£50 a week for partying, food and clothes :P

Hi
im a current 2nd year and stayed in Ricky Road last year and had an awesome time, very friendly and great for socialising.

i did have a friends who stayed elsewhere and wish they had chosen Ricky Rd but it's very difficult to decide when you have never stayed there before.

Ricky Rd is a little bit more basic but certainly makes up for it in other areas.

great place to make friends as well.

I've been looking at the accomodation and I can't decide at all! I'm doing Biomedical Science so the closes to my building will be Ricky Road but I don't really like the look of it. Central Link/Liberty Plaza and Bowsden Court look really nice but they're a bit of a distance :frown:

I've firmed Newcastle for English lit too and I have no idea where to live either! hahaha  I love the look of Liberty Plaza - Central Link, but I'm worried that it'll be too quiet (I want a crazy first year haha) At the same time I've heard that Ricky Road is mental, but I don't like the look of it at all :s-smilie:

I've firmed Newcastle English lit, can't decide between Castle Leazes or Windsor Terrace!
I'm having the same problem with deciding between accommodation! My friend is currently at Ricky Road and has met some great people but that it is really basic and other opinions on it has really put me off ricky road until i read this thread  . I wouldn't want something quiet and I hadn't heard the newer ones were quiet so thats put me off a bit. I'm looking at the map which has the different sites on, and theres a lot of people saying the sites are close to city centre but not the campus...the campus is in the heart of the city centre, most of the sites are a ten minute walk .. if that  Well apart from St. Marys, Henderson Hall and Bowsden haha.

Hi im Deshawn, Im originally from Lagos in Nigeria and have been living in Newcastle for half a year now. Central St James is where I stay, but only rich white kids and foreign kids live here. I would recommend st marys, you form a little family out there.

my friend is currently at Victoria halls and although she says it's lovely, she wishes she had gone for something cheaper like Windsor terrace because the newer accommodation was too quiet. Her roommates go out about once a month :/

Yeah, it looks amazing and I´m seriously considering it, because difference in price is not so big.
I'm not sure were to go! Haven't firmed yet but in the process of and I'm looking at places like Liberty plaza and Park Terrace. Most of the ones I'm considering aren't owned by the uni though and that's what I'm worried about! Anyone else in my positions? I'm doing Food and Human Nutrition

I am studying Law so I know I'll have a lot of work to do so I want a quiet and comfortable room but I don't want to be somewhere where people go out once a month! Help?!
