What are you going to now that you've finished your degree?
What were the best/worst parts of your experience?

Why did you pick one of the most boring degrees out there?

Applying for market analyst jobs and positions within the HE sector (admissions etc.)

Best part was probably the people but the late nights working is something I won't miss

My degree isn't that boring

Mainly picked maths because of the applications side

This will sounds strange, but enjoy the thinking time when it comes to problems  Except when it's exam period I tend to enjoy the module for what it is as opposed to remembering a bunch of facts :yep:

And if yo do have an issue, see a lecturer  Most of them are very helpful although you can have the one of two that are an actual pain :erm:

Thank you.

Do you write up notes after lectures? If so, can I see a picture of how you set out the page?
Original post by Slowbro93
Not always, sometimes you can work out the solutions through set notes (especially when it comes to the construction of proofs). They really do it just to make you think and not just get a degree for being able to do tutorial questions

Lol I wish id known this 3 years ago. I thought uni maths would be like a level but harder questions
Original post by Slowbro93

Difficulty I think ranges from paper to paper. For me, analysis and linear algebra were my hardest courses

As a Mathematics student at King's going into second year this comment scares me.

So as the title has said I've just finished my degree  I was also a live at home student too :yep: If you have any question with regards to King's, maths (or physics/philosophy/political science) living at home or any general queries fire away!

Congrats!

Would you say living at home makes much of a difference re: socialising?

What's the social life like?

What are the SU/societies/clubs like? Are the sports clubs any good?

Is "BNOC culture" a thing?
Would you say that the Maths courses at the unis you applied to (and other similar unis) had similar modules? I'm finding it hard to tell the difference between some of the courses, they all look the same!

You been reading too much into league tables I reckon. Being at King's is great, the mathematics department is fantastic. Living in London is great if you can get used to it. I had a better offer according to league tables but looking at it now I would never change back.

No, not really. For most science based subjects, King's has a rather questionable reputation within the UK for whatever reason.

I am not really too sure why that is in honesty everything is good from my pov.

Yes and no. I ensure I get down key concepts but I don't have a full set of notes. However, I should have some from second year when I did try it. Will take a photo ASAP and poke me if I forget

If only it was that easy

Yuri can be "helpful" to an extent, just make sure you keep on top of the course, learn the major proofs from the beginning and you'll be fine  For LA, apparently the guy who taught it is leaving (:emo: ) so I can't give you any advise on that :sadnod:

It was different but it's one of those things of just getting out there imo. SU is fairly active and I can only tell you about MArtial Arts in terms of sports  No BNOC culture from what I know

Yes and no. So for example, KCL have a massive theoretical physics department meaning that I got to have an expose to modules such as GR earlier. The first two years in a lot of places is usually the exam (with the exception of COWI unis ) however if you say are more of an applied person then have a look at the third and fourth year options and that can help with your choices

I'm commuting from home and also have a part time job while i'm studying maths  Do you think working both days at the weekend will be okay for first year? or should i put aside more time for uni work?

Hi,
How difficult would you say your degree was? And how many hours per week would you say you put in?
I didn't study Further Maths at A Level, so I might study it one day whilst on a gap year. I'm tempted to apply here one day, maybe as a mature student, as financially I wouldn't be able to afford to live in London.
I'm good at maths, but sometimes my confidence drastically weakens. For example. In exams, I manage 95%, others 70% :frown:
I've actually considered a Modern Languages degree but I feel that I would be limited with this :/

Is the university good for the subject? How different is it from A level maths? Did you take Further maths for A2 and was it helpful? What A levels did you take? Also do they consider the UMS grades a lot? e.g. I got my AS results last week, got 4A's and 1 B and for maths my ums marks were C1(100) C2(96) M1(83). I will resit M1 but just curious if they will not consider me a strong applicant because i messed one module up a bit

aaaaahhhh so much pressure, sorry about all the questions lol, trying to choose a course and its probs going to be maths, just want to be 100% sure on the details  thanks for the help!!

You don't even need to declare UMS marks if you don't want to.
How is the physics department? As im going to be doing theoretical physics.
What are the Strand building & the Maughan Library like? I've heard they can be a bit of a cluster****. I'm thinking of applying to KCL next year for Computer Science.

Isn't it better if you do though? Just so they know that you actually have potential and that your predicted grades aren't rubbish and realistic?? I don't know, but even so, would they care?

I don't think so...maybe just quote a UMS average in your reference but I don't think I'm going to disclose anything at all (mostly because I only got > 90% in two modules this year haha).
