I think so. I've noticed that people these days seem less pressured to become football fanatics and embrace other sports.

what is ‘Pressured?I think people never have pressure to become football fanatics

Six Nations is ridiculously popular, probably because the home nations all compete with each and are on a fairly level playing field, with plenty of each country living in the other countries making for good banter.

But not so many people play Rugby, and club Rugby is barely watched at all in comparison to football.

As other have said, games like football and basketball can be played with little organisation or specialist equipment, which means more people play them casually.
More recently I think Football has become a little more popular, what with the world cup etc. Come 2 years from now when the Olympics are back, other sports will become more popular with 2012's thing such as 'Inspire a Generation' perhaps becoming more known and interest levels in the Olympic sports grows.

Success in things such as Wimbledon or the Major golf tournaments for UK athletes could also boost particpation and interest in those sports
