Denmark: Anti-Islam Pegida protesters stage rally in Copenhagen

After major death threats led to the cancellation of the weekly Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West (PEGIDA) march in Dresden, Germany, organisers of a Pegida event in Copenhagen confirmed the demonstration will go as planned on Monday (19 January).

Nicolai Sennels, the organiser of the Pegida march in Copenhagen, took to Twitter before the march and said: "There are again rumours that Pegidadk rally is cancelled and rescheduled. It is not. The demonstration will be held as scheduled."

Der er igen rygter om, at Pegidadk demonstrationen er aflyst eller rykket. Det er den ikke. Demonstrationen afholdes som planlagt. Nicolai

The organiser said his march is a demonstration against "fundamental Islam". Speaking to Politiken, Sennels said: "I will give ordinary middle class Danes - like myself - the chance to send a signal to those who try to intimidate us and say: No thanks to your ideology."

Looks like xenophobia may be on the march again in Europe. First Germany, and now Denmark. I fully support these protesters right to free speech; I just completely disagree with their beliefs about Islam.

Free speech, yes. Hate speech is another matter.

Can you expand on that?
It won't achieve anything.
I don't get why they're just focusing on Muslims, what about all the Hindus, Jews and Christians who've murdered people over cartoons?
There are plenty of issues to raise about Islam, but you have to watch out for things like PEGIDA. You always have to be on the lookout for neo-nazi elements in a movement like that, especially in Germany.

Sometimes you can't tell who is motivated by legitimate concerns and who is motivated by hatred.

I'm all for brown or black people (I swear to God!) but I'm dead against Islam. What does that make me in your view?

The problem with faux-liberalism is that it has really stretched itself to the point of negating its own raison d'etre. Now the left is supporting even ultra-right wing ideologies like Islam under the guise of protection of minorities. Well, you know what, if the left doesn't start fighting BOTH conservative Islam and the racists, the ascent of the crazy right-wing will be just a walk in the park, mark my words.

My own position is, full protection of ALL minorities along with incarceration of any imam who preaches death for apostates, homosexuals etc. THAT IS incitement to murder and hate speech, not the criticism of ideology/religion.

Pediga isn't anti Islam. Its pro Western, pro democracy, pro European, anti extremist, anti terrorist, anti mass immigration.

Its a positive movement. A movement fighting against oppression and dispossession.

The Imams are just reading/interpretating the Quran when they incite the aforementioned.
The sad fact is that ISIS and other 'extremists' are just practicing a very real and plausible interpretation of the faith.

If you cut out all the parts of the Quran pertaining to hate and violence and fear of non-Muslims there really wouldn't be much left other than the binder and a few plagarised quotes from other religions.

Pleas expand

I'm not sure what you mean, the statement is pretty self explanatory.

The interpretation of the Quran that calls for the death and subjugation of non-Muslims has supporting scripture.

What supporting scripture? That is what i meant by 'please expand'.

They are not specifically protesting over the murders committed recently. They are protesting Muslim immigration for obvious reasons. They are protesting against Islam which is a backwards, violent, non progressive, homophobic, misogynistic, oppressive ideology that adds nothing of value to Europe.

It's not fair that PEGIDA and other anti-extremist parties are accused of racism and islamophobia. They are only trying to protect western interests. Muslims and socialists only accuse them of racism because they know muslims are often in the wrong. You can't blame people for having negative stereotypes of islam; 99% of recent terrorist attacks have been by Muslims. The leaders need to sort it out. There is a fundamental problem of violence in Islam and you can't blame people for being concerned about this.

Islamophobia is an oxymoron. And the word racism is having far less impact to me than previously. racism simply means you are against mass immigration or against an ideology such as islam.

Racism is now a defunct word

But I don't understand it because all I see are Hindus and Sikhs making areas change their laws force them onto them, and make food places only serve food that's correct to their religions and no-one's protested about them.

I think you are being deliberately obtuse!

It's when you discriminate against someone because they are from a foreign country. Don't take this in the wrong way; being against immigration does not make you xenophobic.
