UK medical student travelling to Melbourne , Australia for placement

Hello,

Part of my degree entails a self designed module. I am hoping to travel to Melbourne but NOT work in the hospital as they only accept elective students (I am told) and I am only in my 3rd year of study.

I was just posting by chance to see if anyone on here has been to Melbourne or anywhere in Australia and has volunteered for a charity or company instead of the usual hospital placement and if so please could you send me any information and knowledge. The placement begins in 8 weeks and so I need to get something finalized ASAP hence the desperate thread creation.
