Thanks for your help. Having spoken to a number of people, it becomes sometimes evident that certain FO IB positions are out of CASS student's reach. BO and MO are more attainable, although like many non first-tier universities, exceptional students make it into FO.

Could be the case based on the percentage of Cass Undergraduates in graduate trainee programs for FO jobs. However, don't underestimate candidates that make into FO by the back door. There are pleanty of CASS undergraduates in i-banks that have made it to the FO eventually. Graduate Recruitment is just one aspect of the recruitment process!

Well that is true, but only a fool would want to get into FO the 'back-door' way by working their way up the ranks, if they could have a decent shot at it in the first place. Wouldn't you?

Good Luck!! Is it more of a balance sheet, prepare a P&L kind of exam, or is it one where you have to talk about IFRS and other regulations/principles?

Fortunately for me it's the kind with p/l or prepare a balance sheet etc.

As for getting into FO from Cass, it's achievable through the traditional recruitment process IMO.

Cool. P&L and balance sheets aren't too bad to tackle, although I have only had experience of auditing them, and haven't had much exposure to preparing them.

Of course, it is achieveable to get into FO from CASS, but it's not as easy the top 5/6 universities. Have you got any figures yourself about CASS students going into banking? Or you know of any particular banks that CASS students have had success with of geting into?

At the moment, I'm supposed to be heading off to Warwick for Computer Science and Business. However, a possibility for me is Actuarial Science at CASS.

my brother is a graduate from Cass....he did IFRM and got into bank of america.
And what's this whole thing about investment banking? I'd think a degree like IFRM is also well placed to do things like equity analysis or investment management instead of becoming an overpaid salesman :P

I used the term Investment Banking very loosely, and not true to it's strictest sense. I guess it doesn't matter so much, if IFRM is better suited to a role in Investment Management, if somebody really wants to work in sales?

I see, but you do have to take into account what year he joined, years ago it was less competitive to get. And before that you could get in without a degree!

A very good plan indeed. However, having considered this option, and spoken to a couple of people, it becomes apparent that universities, like Banks, place weight on where you have done your undergraduate degree. It's not the sole thing of your application they look at, but a first from Warwick is more likely to get into a target school than a first from CASS.

If thats the case I'll join you in Comp Sci. at Warwick. heh.

But I do know some people from Soton (my first choice) who have got in. Some had internships with Merrill Lynch and grad jobs with RBS and other banks.

Cass ranked first in London and third in UK

Cass moves up in Guardian University Guide 2008

Tuesday, 1 May, 2007

Cass Business School has been ranked the top in London and third in the UK for undergraduate Business and Management Studies according to The Guardian University Tables 2008, published today.

This ranking applies to all business studies, management studies, finance, accounting, marketing, human resource management and business and administrative studies. Last year Cass was ranked 4th in London and 13th in the UK.

Seven statistical measures are used to contribute to the ranking of a university or college in each subject, weighted as follows:
- Teaching quality - as rated by graduates of the course (10%)
- Feedback - as rated by graduates of the course (5%)
- Spending per student (17%)
- Staff/student ratio (17%)
- Job prospects (17%)
- Value added - comparing students' degree results with their entry qualifications (17%)
- Entry score (17%)

Scores are marked out of 10 in bands, in order to compare like with like. For each subject that it teaches, an institution is given a Guardian score, based on these seven measures. The Guardian score for each institution in each subject is derived from a weighted average of the standardised scores for each measure, converted into a scale in which the highest ranked institution gets 100 points and all institutions receive a positive score.

The tables are compiled in association with EducationGuardian.co.uk by Campus Pi, an applied research department at Brunel University. The rankings are compiled from the most recent figures available - official 2005-06 returns from universities and higher education colleges to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (Hesa). They also incorporate data from the National Student Survey (NSS) 2006, published by the Higher Education Funding Council for England.

City University was ranked 26th out of the 100 Universities listed in this report.
