is a driving license invalid if it has a small crack?

Hey all,

So I booked my first 2 hour driving lesson with a driving company, my driving license has a small crack at the bottom but it is still completely legible/ doesn't impair any of the information etc, as i sat in the car the instructor said he couldn't take me on my lesson and that I also couldn't get a refund?

I understand I should have been more careful/ checked before hand but does a crack make a driving license invalid?

It shouldn't do, especially if it isn't badly damaged and is obviously yours. They should have been able to call the DVLA to check it if they were concerned. I'd be digging deeper on this if I were you.
