My hawley retainers are horrid!
So... i got my braces off 3 days ago and yesterday my orthodontist gave me Hawley retainers to wear 24 hours a day for 1/3 months. But I HATE them, they dont look bad but they are so bulky. I keep gagging, i can barely talk and my tounge has no room to even settle anywhere.
I really want essix retainers instead as I know i will wear those with no problems but I have the treatment on the NHS so im not sure if they will let me. I keep taking these ones out because the discomfort is unbearable but i dont want my teeth to go wonky again. Any advice on what to do?
Please dont say "just wear them youll get used to it" because ive had these retainers before and it was nothing like this.

I would let your orthodontist know that they are causing you discomfort and see what they suggest. Maybe ask about getting Essix retainers as well and see what they say
