It is indeed and there are statements waiting so it looks like the forum is working.

Hi,

Are the PS reviewers taking a break for the New Year holiday? If I submit my PS tomorrow(ish) can anyone tell me when I'd be able too expect a response?

Thanks :h:

Of course! We’re volunteers with lives outside of TSR. The minimum waiting time is 5 working days from when you submit your final draft that meets our requirements.

Can I submit my personal statement?

Hi,

Please follow the instructions on post 1 if you’d like to submit your statement.
Where exactly am I supposed to submit my PS to get a review?
I am still not familiar with the system and I could use a little help. Thanks!

Please read this first: information about our PS review service is here:
https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/content.php?r=26458-Get-your-personal-statement-draft-reviewed-by-a-TSR-PS-reviewer

Who is eligible for a review?

This is a member benefit.

Our PS reviewers are volunteers and prioritise reviews to established members of TSR (who have made 100 posts or more). Personal statements submitted by members with fewer posts might be reviewed after a longer wait or if there are no outstanding reviews for established members.

If you would like to minimise your waiting time for a review then we recommend that you take some time to contribute to the site engaging in discussions and answering study help questions to increase your post count before submitting.

PS review submission forum is here
https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=1372
Note, it looks "empty" because it's a private forum. Click on Start A New Discussion in the forum to add your PS for review.

Who runs this service?

The service is completely volunteer-led with the support of The Student Room's community team.
What does the personal statement review service offer to students?

This is a peer-run service managed by volunteers and community team who have both considerable experiencing of reviewing personal statements and have been through the university application process themselves.

Previously the volunteers ran The Student Room's PS Help service between 2005 and 2012 completing over 10,000 personal statement reviews.

TSR members submit their final UCAS personal statement draft confidentially into a private forum where only PS reviewers can view the content.

Members are provided with advice and feedback on the content and structure of their personal statement, this may include recommendations for improvements to spelling, grammar and wording.

Your personal statement will not be rewritten for you and you are expected to have checked the spelling and grammar before submitting.

Where possible a reviewer with expert knowledge on the subject will provide a review.

What can you expect from the service

What we do

This is a confidential service. We’re a team of volunteers and we’re very happy to help but are doing so in our own time so please bear with us. The basic requirement for all PS Reviewers is that they’re at university but a lot of us have finished with our undergrad or even postgrad degrees. A lot of us have been PS Reviewers before and/or in different capacities so have been doing this a long time and have a lot of subject specialist and general experience. Our newer members go through a peer-mentoring process to bring them up to speed with the way we review statements.

We will go over your statement and point out any spelling and grammar issues. We will also make suggestions in terms of content, flow and structure.

Please note:

This is primarily a service for active members who contribute to the TSR community i.e have over 100 posts on TSR. If you do not meet this criterion you may experience longer waiting times.

We are only able to do one review so please make sure you only submit your final draft. Additional drafts and questions may be responded to at the discretion of the reviewer.

What we don't do

We are not a PS writing service and will not rewrite large chunks of your statement. We can only work with what you’ve given us.

Please remember that we can only advice based on our experience (of which we have a lot). People like teachers and careers advisors may tell you different things but at the end of the day it’s your PS so you can do what you like with it

What you need to do before you submit a statement

Have a go at our PS Builder tool http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/Personal_statement_help

Make sure your PS is as close to 4,000 characters as possible. We will not review anything less than 3,000 characters or more than 5,000 characters.

Proof read your work and make sure you get other people like teachers and friends to read it as well. Please only submit your final draft to us for review.

Submit your statement with the course in the title and fill in as much of the form as you can.

Please do not post your statement anywhere else on TSR or the internet.

What will happen to your statement including turnaround times

If your course name isn’t in the title or isn’t clear from the statement or if you haven’t confirmed that this is your final draft you will receive a reply in your thread asking you for any missing information.

Once we have the information we require we will tag your statement for review.

We aim to acknowledge your thread within 24 hours and review your statement within 5 working days. Waiting times may be higher during busy periods and close to deadlines or if you don’t have 100 posts on TSR.

Please keep all comments or questions in your thread and do not create additional threads. Please do not attempt to bump your thread. We will get to you as soon as we can and attempts to get around our system may result in your statement not receiving a review.

What happens if there's a problem and who you should contact

Our reviewers are very experienced and are doing this in their own time so please bear with them. If you feel that a reviewer has behaved in an inappropriate manner please do not engage in an argument with them. Instead bring your thread to the attention of the PS help mods (@She-Ra @Puddles the Monkey @alleycat393 @Interrobang @Charlotte's Web) and we will attempt to resolve the situation.

Rudeness and attempts to circumvent our system including the use of dupe accounts will be viewed very seriously and may result in your not receiving a review.

How to become a PS Reviewer

We’re always looking for enthusiastic volunteers and are glad that you’re interested! As reviewers we find this role both rewarding and informative.

You must be at least at university to become a PS reviewer. Please make a thread in ‘Ask a CT’ from your university network so that we can verify this. We may also ask you to email the office from a university email account. If you have graduated we may ask for another form of proof that you have been to university.

@She-Ra

Would it be possible to please change the character count requirement to 3500-4250 and also to request that students add a list of the institutions they are applying to?

Thanks

Done

Make sure your PS meets our character count requirement of between 3500-4250 characters.

Proof read your work and make sure you get other people like teachers and friends to read it as well. Please only submit your final draft to us for review.

Submit your statement with the course in the title and fill in as much of the form as you can.

Please do not post your statement anywhere else on TSR or the internet.

Please include the names of the universities you are applying to when you submit.

How do you guys recommend starting off a PS? I don’t want to be like everyone else and use phrases like: “From a young age” or “Ever since I was little”.

Just explain why you want to study that subject. It doesn't have to be amazing - just genuine and personal. Don't be afraid to be specific (that's what makes it personal).

If in doubt - don't start at the start....write everything else first

The PS help forum is a private forum and has been running for many years with no problems. Only PS reviewers can see your statement and we’re all either at uni or have finished.
