Application placed on hold...what does this mean?
Apparently they are in the final stages of recruiting and they've placed my application on hold while they do this.
Is this basically saying they've filled their quota and now they'll only bother reading my application of most of the ones they have now aren't good enough?
If so, why bother even emailing me this moot news?

Because they want to keep you on hold should things change and they either have more roles available or people reject their offer and they need to interview more candidates.
This happens a lot. It's better than not hearing back.
