Information about psychotherapists/psychoanalytic psychotherapists please :)

I'm interested in this career path but know nothing about it so I was looking for some advice and info on any of the queries I have; what GCSEs and A-Levels do I need? What degree do I need? What is the average salary at entry and senior level - and how long does it take to become a senior? What exactly does the job entail?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks x

A psychology degree rarely touches on such concepts. A counselling degree (with or without psychology) may be better. You can specialise at masters and onwards into psychoanalysis etc. (I know UCL run a good programme on this)

If you're looking to become a psychoanalyst your best bet is to get a degree in psychology or the arts, this is because quite ironically psychoanalysis is more influential in the arts (Critical Theory, Sociology, some aspects of Philosophy, Comparative Literature etc). But with Psychology many students go on to become psychologists and specialise in one field such as psychoanalysis.
You don't need a degree however you can just become a councellor or therapist and then go on to specialise.
If you want anymore information PM me or visit the Institute of Psychoanalysis, as this is a career path I'm also interested in
