Is it true "snitches get stitches"?

Covert Human Intelligence Sources are usually very well protected, so I'd like to say no! However reprisal attacks are always a possibility.
Do you get trained how to use guns even if you don't use them?

Why do the majority of police officers think they're above the law? And if citizens challenge their rights, they make up the laws wherever they see fit in an attempt to avoid being humiliated by an educated person who knows their rights.

No, unless you join a specialist unit, you won't get training on the use of a handgun/rifle.

However there are units that can receive firearms training but don't routinely carry them - such as the territorial support group in the Met.
What do you think of the tv show Line of Duty
Great, thank you!

Citizens challenge who's rights? I don't think you know what you're saying

Police Officers know the law a lot better than the average civilian.

Did a policeman tell you off for riding your bike on the pavement once upon a time?
Whenever u feds see us pakis in performance cars, why do u keep pulling us over. No joke!

Thanks for the really perceptive, informative response there! Typical resorting to insults if you can't answer a simple question.

I think the graduate entry schemes are a really bad idea. Police Now is basically a management scheme where you get to wear a police uniform.

I'd always say that the best way to join is to join as a PC in the traditional way learn your trade that way.

Cool, glad you’ve confirmed my thoughts.

Imagine CID rocking up and struggling to put cuffs on...

I also think (as someone with a degree) that policy is patronising to those without a degree. You could have been an engineer... salesman etc. I’d be surprised if many applicants could do a reasonable job as a DC within 2 years.

Hard enough being a PC for the first couple years

Mate if you come in with a clear anti-police angle based on petulant bitter prejudices then no, I'm not going to humour you.

I've only actually seen about four episodes!

When you join the Police there are small, irrelevant things that start to bother you about Police shows. Minor differences in Uniform that no one else would even notice
I can understand your frustration. I’m a student in a medical field and feel the same way about medical tv shows. But hey, it’s just fiction I guess

I think being in the senior ranks will always be about having connections to a certain extent, but you build these connections as you progress through the ranks and your career. As much as the Job likes to think it's totally impartial and apolitical, Politics still comes into it a lot.

It's certainly not the case that you have to be born into a policing family or join the Masons or anything. If you work hard and scratch the right backs, everyone has a chance.
