Medicine Work Experience

Hi- so I currently don't have a lot of experience but I'm working on it.
I only have so far: 5 days at an eye clinic as part of a hospital, voluntary work at a charity shop (once a week since 2015), paid two days work at a nursery and have also held a chemistry work shop for year fives (one day only).
But I've also had positions of responsibility throughout school such as charity representative, senior prefect and science mentor.
What I'm kinda worried about is that medicine applicants have to give in their CV and stuff by September- and I have another work/volunteer placement shortly after this time at an elderly care home. Can we still mention this in our CV even if we haven't done it yet?

Yes you can mention things that you are about to do but haven't done yet. I think your bigger problem will be lack of relevant experience as you need a broad range of medical experience.

Hi there!

If you are applying for 2019 entry, our best advice in this situation would be to try to get work experience in a GP or hospital to boost your application - you can find out more about gaining hospital work experience and GP work experience on the links.

You can also see exactly the kinds of work experience medical schools look for on our Medical School Work Experience Requirements page.

You mention that you've had volunteering experience, which you can easily apply to medicine - you can read more on our How to Apply Voluntary Work to Medicine blog.

Hope this helps!

Selling the books I used to help me with 2018 entry. Great quality and selling them for much less than RRP. It’d be great if someone else could make use of them rather than them going to waste, they were super helpful for me.

Includes ISC books for interview practice and UKCAT practice, and a guide to medical schools.
