Hi. I would like to know whether universities take work experience as more important or volunteering as more important for applying to medicine. Or they regard them as important? Can I just do volunteering instead of work experience? It is really hard to find relevant work experience. Thanks
Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.
The Medicine forum gets a high volume of questions being posted, and some of these are already answered by the resources and Megathreads that members of the community and volunteers have created. This is an automatic post which is designed to highlight these resources. Below is a list of threads and articles that could answer your question (you should be looking in the original post of the megathreads). If one of the below threads is a more relevant place to ask your question, please post a reply in that thread to ask your question. If your query is answered by one of the Megathreads or articles linked below, and you would like us to close this thread for you, please reply to this thread with just the words "thank you". A member of our team will then get it locked.

Work experience is more important. But volunteering can be work experience - pretty much the only way you can get work experience relating to Medicine if you're a school leaver

u can do both - if u cant find in person u can try the bsms and obersve gp virtual work experiences. imo volunteering is more useful because u can actually have hands on experience and develop and display your own skills and traits, if u can get a good placement, whereas clinical work experience is likely to just be shadowing, which only allows u to see the skills someone else is showing, but it is still very useful to gain an insight into what a career in medicine entails.
