You shouldn't be paying for medical work experience...if for no other reason than the point of it is to reflect on the experience, not to say how you stood next to a neurosurgeon for 6 hours and learned nothing!

In any event, firstly read this thread linked above: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6929328

Secondly, work experience for medicine applicants is normally aimed at those in year 12. Doing work experience the summer after GCSEs will probably be considered "out of date" by the time you apply to medicine by medical schools anyway. For this summer you should just focus on enjoying your summer. If you really must, just start making some notes on local hospitals/GP surgeries/care homes/hospices/etc that you can get in touch with later in year 12.

It's probably more practical to aim to do your work experience in the spring or summer break during/after year 12, than any earlier. This will be recent enough to be relevant to your application while also giving you time to reflect on it and incorporate it into your PS, I should think.

As said above, schools are more interested in what you take from an experience and how you can relate that experience to being a doctor. So that doesn't necessarily mean it has to be directly medical. Maybe at this point in time the best thing to do would be finding some volunteering that you could take part in, places are always happy for the support.

I personally volunteered for 2 years at my local nursing home, just on a Sunday during term time and sometimes for an extended time during holidays. I think this was something that really helped in my application, more than the work experience I had. 2 years is a lot though, and I'm not saying you need to do anything for that long, but also not saying you shouldn't.
