From the multiple choice section on an OCR A2 inorganic paper.
Which substances experience induced dipole dipole interactions?
1- c2h5oh (ethanol)
2-h20
3- SiO2
the answer is 1 and 2, so not SiO2 but I don't know why? I thought all compounds experienced induced d-d interaction.
please help lol

Only simply molecular structures experience intermolecular forces.
Silicon dioxide has a giant covalent lattice structure, therefore does not experience IMFs so induced dipole dipole interactions cannot be present between SiO2 molecules.

All do experience induced dipole dipole, are you sure that the question wasn't about permanent dipole dipole because SiO2 doesn't experience permanent dipole dipole while the other two do.
