Hi there! What is the visitor policy for guests staying over in halls? I know for some unis the time you can have guests is like a max of 2 nights in a seven day period or 6 days in a month, but I can’t find that info for Plymouth. Thanks!

Hey there! I lived in halls last year at Plymouth and there weren't any specific rules or regulations that I was told about visitors staying over for a certain number of nights and it is generally very relaxed as long as you keep your flatmates informed of any plans and ensure you accompany your visitor in any communal areas etc. :h: If you do have any other questions though or want to check if there is any more updated guidance around this then the accommodation team are happy to help at both student receptions, as well as via [email protected] All the best!

Hey everyone! Current Plymouth 2nd year student here :gthumb:

Has anyone got any questions or anything they'd like to know about Plymouth, the university, campus, city or anything in general? Let me know and I'd be more than happy to answer any you might have :h:

And if you don't have any specific questions... Let us know what you're looking to study for next year! I study zoology but would love to know what other courses people are interested in!

Hello to everyone considering the University of Plymouth for their studies next year! :h:

It would be great to hear what has drawn you to think about choosing Plymouth for your applications and the reasons why you’re considering it to be the uni for you?!

I thought it might be useful to write about a few of the main reasons I chose Plymouth for my degree, which might hopefully help some of you to make a decision about where to apply or to consider visiting us on our next open day on November 18th!

- I really loved that Plymouth is the perfect blend of a great student city with great access to nature and outdoor spaces! For my degree (zoology) it was really important to be able to access a range of natural spaces, including the National Marine Park and Dartmoor, but also to have good amenities for students in general, which there are plenty of here in the city! With a huge shopping centre, main high streets, bars, restaurants, and entertainment just a 2 minute walk from the campus, it was clearly a perfect location for students! :smartass:

- The campus is really modern and there are lots of great spaces to study, eat, work, and enjoy all within the university! The SU is a great multi-use venue with food and drink service, entertainment, study spots, and great social events, whilst the library here spans over 4 floors and has everything a student could need to achieve their best in their course! There are also so many cafés and eateries all across the campus so there is plenty of places to grab a bite to eat! :u:

- The teaching facilities are high quality and the uni invests a lot in the student experience and teaching standard! Plymouth has recently invested in two new buildings (Intercity Place and Babbage) to provide state of the art learning equipment, whilst classrooms, lecture theatres, and learning spaces are all modern and provide a great environment to work in, including some amazing science laboratories and more!

- There is a great community feel at the university and it’s easy to get involved and get stuck in with the many societies, events, and activities the SU has to offer! There is such a wide range of things on offer, from sports and arts societies to club nights and movie nights, there is such a good student experience on offer here at the university and plenty to get up to outside of your course!

It would be great to hear why anyone else is considering Plymouth for their studies!

Have you visited an open day here yet? Let us know! If you haven’t had a chance yet, our next open event is on the 18th November!! So make sure to pop down and give us a visit and see how you can make it count in Britain’s Ocean City!

Hi everyone! Hope your applications are going well and best of luck to those applying to Plymouth!

For anyone who's already made their application to Plymouth- what tips would you give anyone who hasn't yet applied? And what made you choose Plymouth for your application? I'm sure it would be really helpful to hear from some 2024 applicants!

For me, I would say that my top tip would be to show your passion and enthusiasm in your personal statement and application to really show why you're interested in that course and why you'd be a great fit! 🙂 I chose Plymouth because of its great student-friendly city with lots of access to nature, including Dartmoor and the National Marine Park, as a Zoology student! The university is also really modern with some fantastic new facilities and specialist buildings.

Let me know what you're hoping to study and what questions you have about Plymouth or university in general?!

Best of luck with all your applications! 😀

-Alfie, University of Plymouth Undergraduate Student Rep
A big welcome to anyone that's thinking about applying to Plymouth, has already applied, or has received an offer! 😀

I'm a second year Zoology student here at the university and I know plenty about the university, student life, and what it's like to live in the city, so feel free to ask any questions you might have about anything!

It would be great to hear what everyone is planning to study and what you're interested in, as well as why you're hoping to study in Plymouth? Let us know below!

Good luck with everyone's applications and hope to see you in Britain's Ocean City in 2024 🙂

Hey everyone! 😀

We have an applicant offer holder day coming up very soon on 3rd February if you have an offer with us here at Plymouth! I'd definitely recommend coming along and getting involved with subject specific talks, activities and sessions, to learn more about what your Plymouth experience could be like studying with us.

It's also a great opportunity to ask lots of detailed questions to our students and staff! I've written a few of my top questions that might be useful to ask on this day if you're curious about the subject and want to know more about what you'll be learning and what you can gain with us! 🙂

1) Ask more about the modules you might be able to take on your course!

This is a great question as it often will vary between universities and students/lecturers can give you more detailed insight into what you'll be learning.

2) Ask students about what they think of the course!

Student ambassadors from your course will be on hand to answer honestly about their experience, so make sure to hear what they have to say about the course and why they enjoy it.

3) Ask staff about the facilities and assessments!

Lecturers and other staff members can give you more insight into how the course is taught, structured, and assessed, as well as being knowledgeable in our great facilities and where you'll be learning.

If there are any questions you'd like to ask if you're not attending an offer holder day soon, feel free to reply to me with any general questions about the university or speak to our Unibuddy students for more detailed questions about the course you're interested in!

We also have upcoming offer holder days on 24th Feb and 23rd March so be sure to check one out if you can! 😀

Have a happy new year!

-Alfie, University of Plymouth Undergraduate Student Ambassador 🙂
Hi everyone! 😆

Hope you're having a great start to the new year! 🎇

The 31st January UCAS deadline is on the horizon this month so if you have any burning questions you want to know the answers to or are keen to chat to some current students and staff, I thought I'd share some different ways you can do so below 🙂

Chat to a Plymouth rep on The Student Room!

I'm a current undergraduate student here and always happy to answer any questions you might have about courses, the university, or city in general! Feel free to send me a message, thread, or reply to any of my posts with anything you want to chat about. We also have staff and postgraduate reps here on TSR so feel free to reach out to them too!

Speak to our course-specific Unibuddy reps!

We have lots of course reps available to chat on Unibuddy who you can ask more specific questions about the courses you're interested in. Staff from a number of areas are also around to chat on there, so reach out to them with any queries you have or if you want to hear more about what it's like to study with us!

Find some of our student reps at an upcoming open day or offer holder day!

Our student reps can be found across the campus at our open days and come from a variety of subject areas. Both course-specific and general ambassadors can be found on the day to answer any questions you might have about the university, course, or student life. They're easy to spot in their blue t-shirts and staff are also on hand to chat about anything you might want to discuss too. Our next offer holder days are in February and March and we have an open day coming up in April.

Hey everyone! 🙂

The UCAS deadline for 2024 entry is today! Hopefully that means if you're looking to study with us, you've now put in your application... Exciting times! So... What's next?

Receive your offer decision!
If you've applied to us, you'll hopefully have received your decision of an offer soon after submitting that UCAS application. Fingers crossed you have been successful in receiving an offer and are taking the next step to studying at Plymouth! 😀

Visit an offer holder day!
We have a few upcoming open days over February and March including: 3rd Feb, 24th Feb, and 23rd March. Hopefully you can join us for one of these dates if you have an offer to study with us! They are a great chance to explore the city and campus more and hear more detailed information about your course and what we can offer you. Make sure to chat with students and staff to hear about what you could be learning and what the student experience is like in Plymouth!

Consider your accommodation!
Here at Plymouth, we guarantee to offer you a place in halls (either University-managed or with an accredited private halls provider) or in other suitable student accommodation to all new undergraduate students holding a firm offer and apply before 17:00 on 4 July 2024 (terms and conditions apply). Make sure to have a look round our accommodation options at an offer holder day and speak to the accommodation team if you have any questions!

Prepare for your exams!
If you're taking your exams this year or have a conditional offer which have set results you need to obtain for your place at university, make sure you focus on these in the next few months! The excitement of university can be a lot to think about but don't forget to keep revising and working towards the grades you hope to achieve to meet your offer requirements.

Get ready to move to university!
Once you've finalised your place with us in the summer when you have received your results, it's time to get prepared for moving to Plymouth (if you don't already live here!) Make sure you have everything you need if you're moving away from home for the first time and check if you are required to do any reading or work in advance before starting your course.

And that's it! I hope this was helpful for anyone hoping to study with us from September and good luck to everyone sitting exams this summer 🙂

If you have any questions or queries feel free to reply to me and I'll do my best to answer any! Otherwise, we have course-specific reps available to chat to on Unibuddy if you have more subject-specific questions and want to find out more about your course or the student experience here in Plymouth! 😀

Best of luck!

Hi there!

As a current second year student and student ambassador, I often get asked quite a few similar questions, so I thought it might be useful to put some of my FAQs below for anyone wanting to hear from a Plymouth student!

Do you have any offer holder days?

Our next offer holder day is on the 23rd March! Here you'll be able to learn more about your course in depth, see the campus, facilities, and speak to both students and staff. They're a great chance to learn more detail about your course of choice and get involved with more hands-on activities/workshops! Find out more here!

What facilities does the uni have to support me?

The university has a dedicated Student Hub in the library, open every week day (with the library open 24/7) to support you with your career, student wellbeing, finances, and more. The library itself is a fantastic facility with plenty of resources and spaces to support your learning and independent study. We also have a number of teams to specifically support those who are interested in placements or who need additional support, as well as an SU with student and staff reps happy to support you with anything you might have going on within/outside the university.

What is the city like?

One of the main reasons I chose Plymouth was because of its great city! I always say there is the perfect mix of city-life (with all the student shops, restaurants, and venues you'd need just minutes away) and nature (with the National Marine Park and Dartmoor right on Plymouth's doorstep)! Everything I ever need is within walking distance and it's a very accessible city overall with a vibrant night-life and student-friendly atmosphere.

We have lots of people who are happy to answer any more questions too! As a student rep here on TSR, I'm always around to answer any queries you might have, but we also have more students from most subjects and staff on our Unibuddy platform! Here you can ask more specific questions about your course and learn more honest opinions about the student experience here in Plymouth. We also have a number of university contacts you can find here.

Best of luck!

Do parents usually attend offer holder days too?
Original post by pookienoodle
Do parents usually attend offer holder days too?
Hey @pookienoodle

It's absolutely up to those wishing to attend. Parents, friends, family, or just the offer holder can attend our Offer Holder Days.

We do encourage others to join the offer holder attending, and we have a Parents' Loung so that the offer holder is able to explore the campus, or go to various talks with student ambassadors and lecturers, but know where to meet their parents, friends or family again when they're ready.

I hope this answer helped! Please feel free to ask anything else about our Offer Holder Days, and keep an eye out on your emails for any updates about the day 😄

Best wishes,
Amelia - University of Plymouth
Halls of Residence… What’s it like?! :hello:

Hi everyone!

As someone that stayed in halls for my first year, I often get asked lots of questions about what it was like and how I found it, so I thought it might be useful to share my experience with you here for anyone planning to stay in the university’s halls of residence for their first year too!

Which halls did you stay in?
I stayed in Francis Drake for my first year of university in a 6-bed flat with a shared kitchen and en-suite room.

Which is the ‘best’ halls to live in?
Across the halls on campus/in the student village there are plenty of options to suit all budgets and preferences (such as smaller/bigger flats, single sex flats, no drinking flats, en-suites/shared bathrooms etc.) There isn’t necessarily a best option as everyone prefers different factors!

Did you enjoy halls?
Yes! I met some great people living in halls of residence and it was an easy, affordable option for accommodation during my first year of study. Halls might not be for everyone, but I would highly recommend it for your first year to meet new people (who you might be friends with for life!), have peace of mind (with all bills included and a reception/maintenance team) on Plymouth’s secure campus/student village (with 24/7 security).

What’s the location like?
The best it could be! Situated at the heart of campus are two halls, whilst the others are just 2 minutes across one road. The location makes it easy to get to lectures, access shops, or anywhere across the city as the campus is at its centre!

What was the ResLife program like?
One of the best parts of living in halls! Completely included in your accommodation, ResLife is an amazing program offering many perks including free trips (such as the zoo, pottery painting, escape rooms, and more!), free food vans, giveaways, competitions, and other bonuses! I loved this part of halls as it was a great way to meet new people, explore the city and wider area, and an excuse to have some great trips free of charge!

I have more questions… Who can I ask?
I am always on TSR to help out with any general questions you might have, so feel free to reach out! Our accommodation team can be reached at [email protected] whilst we have lots of students on our Unibuddy page who have stayed in different halls and would be able to give you their perspective!

Our accommodation portal is now open for anyone who has made their Plymouth offer their firm choice, so check this out here - don’t forget about our accommodation guarantee, too (T&Cs apply)!

Hope to see you on campus this September

University of Plymouth Spotlight on: The Careers Service! 📚️

Hey everyone! 👋

I often get a few questions about the careers support at the university and how they can help you achieve your career goals and dream job. It's a super important and significant service that the university provides and I have found it really useful throughout my time at the university, so I thought it would be useful to include some information about them below...

Where are they based?

What online tools are available through the careers service?

How do I contact the careers service?

What resources does the careers service provide?

If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out! 😃
