contact process??

okay sorry if this sounds stupid or anything

when we were taught about the contact process, my teacher told us that it involves 3 equations, but then we only really learnt about the second one (2SO₂ + O₂ ⇌ 2SO₃₎

basically, i can’t work out if the contact process is just this equation or if it means all 3 equations

The Contact Process is just one of the three stages in the process of making H2SO4.
1. S + O2 -> SO2,
2. 2SO2 + O2 <-> SO3,
3. SO3 + H2SO4 -> H2S2O7,
4. H2S2O7 + H2) -> 2H2SO4.
Damn, that's 4 steps.

In industry your step 3 is usually:

SO₃ + 97%H₂SO₄ --> 100%H₂SO₄

That makes 3 steps ...
