Core maths a level?

So for a level I picked bio chem physcology
Two of my friends are doing the same
One is doing bio Chem history and we both have been put in for core maths which will count towards ucas etc
What exactly is it ? Is it for dumb people? Why are some people put on for it
I got a grade 6 for maths but 8 for the rest

It's an extra maths qualification (not actually equivalent to an A-Level, but still a perfectly respectable qualification to have) that will support you in the maths portions of your science A-Levels. There is no connotation of it being "for dumb people". However, your school might have decided that people with high grades in GCSE Maths won't need it, hence some of your friends not taking it.
