Fallback careers that you can train for remotely

Hi,
I don't know if this is even the right place to ask this - if not, I apologise.

I'm an air traffic controller and I have watched as the aviation industry has been brought to its knees by this pandemic. Many people in the industry - pilots, for instance - have found themselves unemployed with no realistic prospects of re-employment in the short term.

I am lucky enough still to have my job, but I can't say this whole thing hasn't startled me as I have no alternative career to fall back on. I have A-levels that are about ten years old, and no qualifications further than that that aren't specific to ATC.

I have seen many pilots urging other pilots to have careers that they can fall back upon - but what sort of training could one do online, either formally or informally that would put one in a better position in the case of being made redundant?
You can do whole degrees online so you need to narrow down the potential careers further - what would you want to do?

Anything. But are there degrees that you can do that will give you a decent chance of securing a job without having to compete with thousands of people? For example if I thought plumbers were in short supply I'd want to qualify as a plumber. But obviously that's not really possible as it's hands-on.

French, German, Spanish and Italian. A*, A, A, B. But I'm not looking for a career with these, they're a hobby and I'm not expecting any jobs to come from them. I'd do anything really, it'd only be temporary until another ATC job came along. Probably won't ever be necessary but would be nice for peace of mind.

Aviation professionals are not exactly poor, you have to have capital typically to train in the field as a pilot or once trained like ATC have capital to fall back on. You can do anything you want, the fact they have a specialist qualification makes you desirable to other businesses because it makes them stand out for competence. Redundancy also means you get paid. You are already ahead of a lot of people. You can do AAT accounting online if you wanted. Your not in a bad position so i wouldn't be startled. You will always get a job. You're desirable as an applicant to professional services roles that start on $25k for graduates.

If your short-term then stack shelves, because its not like non-trained people are gonna be desirable to apply to train as an ATC .
