Is anyone else planning on buying the OUP materials coming out on the 20th?

Yes I will be purchasing these today, I emailed OUP and they sent me the purchase link this afternoon.

I might have a look at the OUP stuff as I am nearly at the end of my prep course and if they have some practice exams, then it may be worth it but they have left it quite late for this cohort as the exams are in four weeks. Anyone else have any knowledge about the pass mark yet? I can still see 55-60% being touted but its all quite vague.
Is anyone actually considering self studying? I want to as its much cheaper but do you reckon its actually possible without having the ability to get feedback from tutors for example?

Whether self-studying is possible would depend on your prior education. I think SQE examines knowledge beyond what has been taught at undergraduate level. It would be difficult to self-study unless you have already learnt everything examinable in your prior education.

If permitted it would save you money if you purchase study materials and share the cost with your friends.
I don’t think I could have paced myself with self-study and there was nothing out there to use when I started studying in January. I don’t have a law background but I am quite disciplined and I have had to do about 3hrs a day to ensure I’m confident with the content for the Nov exam. Without a study plan and guidance I would have found it tricky but I guess it depends on your background.
Is anyone considering the LLM in Legal Practice (sqe) with The College of Legal Practice?

As the fees are much lower and its eligible for the postgrad loan. But I've not heard much about them so not sure if they're worth considering?

I m preparing to take the SQE1 and SQE2. Anyone ready to join and study together and we share notes even though I don’t have any notes.

I will be taking one at a time. If I pass the 1st one, I will attempt the 2nd as well. If I fail the 1st part, obviously I won't repeat my mistake and I will fork out for the course. I am just wondering, are you simply curious or are you enquiring in order to join a study group?

Himay I know if you have takenthe SQE part 1 already and how is it going? I am a Law degree undergraduate and would like to take SQE 1 soon (by self study).

Hey, you can do the SQE 1 on your own and the closer you are to the material (i.e. still studying), the more chances you have to pass it on your own. For me, it required discipline of 9 months of part-time self-study. If you cannot push yourself to study and your mind wanders, definitely pay the price and get a course from a reputable institution. It's no fun going through that exam/stress again, nevermind the delay to qualifying and the additional cost

Hi,

This is a thread for people who will attempt to take the S.Q.E. without enrolling into a course.

I have been unable to get onto a graduate scheme in my field and I was unable to stop working or work part-time in order to do the LPC. Now with the SQE, I feel it is more realistic that I can pay £4K for both parts of the exam, rather than paying £17K for the LPC.

My University contacted me, telling me they have specialist courses for the first part costing £3K. I am not sure I want to pay this kind of money right now, so I am planning to study alone. If it goes south, it will be a waste of £2K for the first part of the exam, but I still want to give it a try. I am not keen on spending similar amounts I would have paid under the LPC scheme, only now having to do that remotely.

I know it sounds like there is no winning with me, but, it is not that; I paid a lot for my degree and master's. Why can't I just put the hours, use my notes and just take S.Q.E? If I still need to fork out more money, I should have gone and done something I actually enjoyed at Uni, rather that paying all that money for the 'right' to pay even more money to my Uni to prepare me for an exam!!!

So, if anybody else is thinking of studying alone and would like to share notes, ideas, guidance in an open a fair manner, this is the place to be.

Is there any update on how.you (or others) got on with this? I was enrolled on the LLM SQE course with Ulaw but they've just cancelled the course I'm doing so I'm reevaluating my options.
I work as a Paralegal now.and have a law degree so just seeing how reasonable passing SQE1 with self study is.
