level 2 maths

Hi, I have made an application to do a master's, but they have said I need to get my level 2 maths within the next six weeks before I will be accepted. I've looked online at it varies so much what's on offer. The free ones through the local college take one year! Which is any good? Any advice? Thanks

If you go through the offline colleges, you would need to go at the same pace as the teacher for the rest of the class. The material will be in accordance to the GCSE curriculum, but the teachers will be teaching to a standard that's comprehensable to the weaker students in the class. They won't be full classes of 30 people, but more like small 5-10 people groups. You will get more support, but you can't speed through the material.

The alternative that I would know of would be to do GCSE Maths, but you can only book for those exams between November and April (you might be a little late to book your exams). If you want to check if you can still book for your exam, see the following:
AQA: https://www.aqa.org.uk/student-and-parent-support/private-candidates/exam-entries-and-fees (which will give you the following link: https://filestore.aqa.org.uk/admin/library/AQA-SERIES-GUIDE.PDF) - you have until the 21st this month to book for the GCSE Maths exam
EdExcel: https://qualifications.pearson.com/en/support/support-topics/centre-administration/fees.html (which would give you the following link: https://qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/Support/Fees-for-academic-and-vocational-qualifications/uk-general-qualifications-fees-2022-23.pdf) - you have until the 22nd to book your GCSE Maths exam
OCR: https://www.ocr.org.uk/administration/fees/ (which would give you the following link: https://www.ocr.org.uk/Images/662074-qualification-fees-general-qualifications-2022-23.pdf) - you have until the 21st to book your exam

There are courses like functional skills, but I have ever come across them through adult colleges, and they are not self paced courses.

If you want to book your exam, you need to book it as a private candidate:

Go to the individual exam board you want to do your exam with (I have strong preference for one of them, especially for maths)

Find the private candidate section of the website

Go to their list of approved exam centres (I would prioritise those who are closest to you)

Liaise with the exam officier of the approved exam centre and book your exam (you will likely need to go through a list of these as a number of them are slow or don't respond at all).

Since you're booking your exam really late, you will be paying more than £50 for the exam.

If you feel confident in cramming and being able to improve you maths skills to a high enough grade in 2 months, then by all means, do the GCSE Maths course/self study + exam. I on the other hand am skeptical, since you would need quite a bit of support.

My advice would to do the GCSE through an offline college and spend one year improving on it i.e. prepare yourself properly. This is free and there's a lot less hassle. However, if you really want to do your master's in the next academic year, then you would need to take more drastic actions.
