Can you do ‘History of Art’ A-Level without having done GCSE ‘Art’?

Somehow, I could’t find the answer anywhere online, maybe it’s a silly question to ask...
There's no national rule on it. Individual colleges/sixth forms may have their own rules.

Thank you!
You can definitely take history of art a-level without having studied GCSE art. There is no practical or drawing elements in history of art A-Level, instead it is an essay based subject so you can definitely do well without art GCSE!
Well you can do Art A-Level without having done GCSE Art (mostly, a few sixth forms are picky but most accept a portfolio), so I can't at all see why you wouldn't be able to do History of Art.

While this is true, it is an absolute travesty that it is possible.
Yes History of Art is an academic subject with no practical element. Think of it as English Literature but with art works instead of books.
You'll analyse them, look at contexts and the period in which they were made and think about their relavance today, but you do not have to be able to create art of your own.
