Hey, I need to know if I would definetly need a laptop for going into university?
I have a moderately decent pc at home but wont be able to bring into uni (desktop)

Could you set up the desktop PC in your bedroom at uni, and use that for the demanding CAD work?
In which case a laptop would be handy for word processing, web browsing and email whilst you're out and about on campus. In which case a nice light 13.3" used premium business laptop for under £200 would be great for that job.

A 17" laptop is more of a mobile workstation. Big heavy bulky things to carry around.
