polar coordinate question help

Why do they not use the polar coordinate equation for this question for finding the area under a curve?

Seems an obvious thing to do (polar integration), but youve not posted what they did so hard to comment.

Looks like polar integration to me. What do you think theyve done?

Edit - Im "sure" last night your question was about polar integration, though youve edited it. If youre asking why theyve not transformed to cartesian coordinates then integrated, what do you think the cartesian equation would be? From a quick scribble its looking like a quartic in both variables (hidden quadratic) and not something that looks like its going to give easily. Doing polar integration seems as routine as you get.
