need advice !

i've picked warwick as my insurance but now im second thoughts about it, im just not sure how i feel about the university being in coventry as i haven't heard that many great things about it and the things that have haven't in warwick the past few years is making me a bit anxious

also im worried about the cost of living and don't know if i can afford it especially as my parent's aren't that well off and won't be able to help, my other option is to change my insurance to cardiff and the city seems better for students

however today is my last day to change my insurance and i don't know if it's worth changing warwick based on these reasons because in terms of 'rankings' it's the better uni for my course and im worried i might regret changing, at the same time im worried that i might regret keeping warwick

anyway advice? or is anyone also going to warwick / cardiff (and doing biochemistry maybe) could give some insight, thank you!
Hiya!

I'm Fatiha, a 2nd year Psychology student at Cardiff University  I completely understand your anxiety - I felt the same way before applying to university! I see that you posted this 3 days ago, so I hope you made a decision you were comfortable with. Just know whatever happens it isn't the end of the world, since there's always clearing and/or deferral if things go south.

When it comes to Cardiff, it's been a great uni to study at so far! It's one of the friendliest cities for cost of living, I'm investing a lot less money than my friends who are studying at other unis, from my experience. The student union does a bunch of schemes to help, plus, there is a Lidl on campus so that's always helpful

Let me know if you had any other questions!

Hi, no worries! I'm glad that you still have time to change your mind, its always anxiety-inducing to stick with a choice you're uncomfortable with! It's quite a lovely place to live, I really enjoy being a student here. The Lidl is very convenient, although it makes it easy to always go down to the shops to buy a snack haha

hi i'm in my 3rd year studying biochem at warwick!! i will HIGHLY recommend you to put warwick down!! compared to other unis, our uni is quite chill when it comes to exams especially our life sciences department. labs are great and there are phd students (aka demonstrators) that are there to help you. the exams are also online and open-book (when i did it we did it at home, but due to ai they've now changed it to in person) but that shouldn't be too much to worry about as exams are MCQs or short-form answers. the staff are great and we have tutorials and personal tutors that will help you along the way! you also study with not just biochem students but also other life science students (biomed, biology and neuroscience) so you get to meet a wide range of people! modules are interesting too!! the uni itself is great and is highly respected by employers so i would definitely recommend you to put it down as insurance

Hiya, Is Warwick really nice??? I hope to also study Biochem or Chemistry at Uni too.... just not sure if I should really go to warwick. What are the people like? Do they seem to be open and socialise a lot? I moved to a new school for A levels and a lot of people (mostly internals) are not open to talk to me/ do not have any interest to talk to me unless i talk to them first which is annoying because i have done that with everyone..... i dont wanna be talking to people who dont even show interest in me!! It seems like im just begging for convo/ asking too many questions when im just getting to know the person and being myself. I feel like the people are sooooo dry, gosh. they just stick to their own groups and look at you. Anyways, yeah, so how open are the people there?

hi! i never stayed at student accom so i always travelled from home so i thought making friends and meeting new people will be difficult and i thought i will spend most of my uni time alone hahah but I was absolutely wrong!
idk about chemistry however the life sciences department has a society called biosoc. when i was confirmed to go to warwick, i found about biosoc and they have a mentorship/family system. so freshers can get assigned to mentors who study the same degree as you. other students are assigned to your mentor as wel. i had 2 other students and we're all still really good and close friends! i would have been sooo lonely if i didn't go to this so i highly recommend you to sign up for that! you get to also meet other students who are in your degree and in the department! tutorials are great too! you will be with students from different degrees from life sciences which i thought was really good! im still really good friends with those in my tutor group! biochem is one of the largest cohorts in life sciences (i think 2nd after biomed) so you will definitely meet a large number of people! our degree involves working with people so everyone is willing to help each other! there are whatsapp groups, snapchat groups etc. that you can join too! everyone is open
